What's this sound, how do I...

Post by Fletchur » Mon Sep 30, 2013 9:23 am

Hey so I've been playing a lot of GTA haha and I've noticed this before and during the hip-hop songs on this game.
It may sound basic to you but I'm wondering what exactly is being used on these like.. orchestral hits the high ones in these songs.

I've heard it in many more songs as well but these are the two I can find at the moment.

The high like one shot orchestral hits every now and then!

Thanks!

I'm not really sure what you're asking for. the second track is just samples and a chopped up piece of the sample is just used every now and again with a crash on top of it. I might be able to help you a bit more if you elaborate a bit on what you're after.

Standard samples nothing to fancy, you should just make them somewhat by yourself without any effort.
Just try slicing up something similar. GL

:corntard:

I hope to fuck you're not just talking about the string samples, because, like...

:corncry:

Which is not to cap on OP: it's just that I'm becoming alarmed lately at the number of kids who don't know what the fuck a piano or a violin or a trumpet is...

I'm asking what the specifics are of the hit string sounds, they all sound similar, I'm asking what type of strings and brass, and how they all make it sound the same because the hit is the same on each of them, sorry for being dumb.

its not that youre dumb
its that you put minimal effort before asking a question.
you want to get spoonfed much like 90% of the threads here.

"how do i make this sound? k thx bai"
no asshole. put some effort into it, show that you care, that you want to learn.

I still dont understand your question?
what type of strings and bass
not sure, its sampled, youd have to look for the origins of the sample and trace it from there.
and how they all make it sound the same because the hit is the same on each of them

they loaded the samples in a sampler and played the same note.

i highly suggest you read your DAWs manual before posting any questions.

youre not dumb, you just make people think youre dumb.
if I were a mod i'd be much more militant here. much more liberal with the banhammer.
in fact id probably make it a rule that you cant post here(asking a "how do I...") without making a decent attempt yourself first.
would guaranteed kill 99% of the spam AND "how does i datsik" threads.

You've just said you don't know the type of instruments used yourself. I can't feign something I'm not sure on, what do you want from me? If it helps, here is a sample of something I've been trying but the sound I tried to emulate did not come out what I was trying to achieve. It's ok saying just "trumpet" or "strings" but I was looking for what, how and why. "It's a sample" is a pretty thoughtless response which tells me nothing.

As for calling me an asshole, what's the fucking deal man, I'm an asshole for not understanding? For not having the musical skill or knowledge to make my question clearer? That's bullshit.

Soundcloud

There you go. I haven't just done a fucking hit and run, I've tried an attempt at re-creating it myself and had a little trouble so thought I would try to ask you guys for help. Flame me all you want but you didn't know the facts.

who the fuck in dubstepforum is gonna know exactly what instruments are in an orchestral sample?
for such specific details, wouldnt you be better off posting in some orchestra forum or something?
again, it boggles my mind...

1st tune sounds like a bunch of strings?
look for string hits

2nd tune is choir ahhs

once again though, ill be incredibly surprised if you find anything that sounds the same, especially the choir ahhs.
BTW on that wip you posted, if you use proper brass samples youd have something pretty fuckin decent.

Well ok man but I get for flamed for "not knowing what a trumpet is" so I'd assume some people know, on the wip im using miroslav philarmonik and I'm iffy about the sound myself.

thing is, in hip hop specifically, when you hear orchestral hits like those theyre sampled from an older record 99% of the time.

anyways, if youre not willing to shell out ridic. amounts of $$ for some orchestral brass libraries, I highly recommend you either sample them OR check out Session Horns if you have kontakt.
