Feel like there's gonna be no point unless each list is kept to about 5 or so.

Agreed, I'm thinking ten names and two label suggestions is probably the most easy on the eyes and a good starter point.
I make music as Forsaken, you can DL all my unreleased (and a couple released) bits here.

edit; don't see the point of limiting your list either, the names I mention are all very known, as an introduction it's ok I guess but still it would be easy for people to see a list of names and pick any of the unknown to further explore the genre. Also there are plenty of lists on the web too I think

Think it's just intended as a quick guide to sow the seeds of exploration rather than do it all for you. Like, you heard an ambient reggae tune and wanna know more? Here's 5 ambient reggae artists to start you on your journey, as opposed to a list of every ambient reggae producer that can be a bit overwhelming.

Yeah I understand but shouldn't there be a second thread or something for people who want to explore further and can't find much?
I like garage, but I know every name listed, have listened to a lot of their music already but I'm not familiar enough with the genre to find others
Would be so easy to just have a long list of producers you can go through, better then searching 10 threads full of tunes imho

I'm going to add links to the genre discussion thread if we have one (garage / grime / early dubstep ar all covered obviously).

this is not aimed at you though, you're well educated on this. it's aimed at the weekly requests from newbies that don't really know where to start.

yeh. i would prefer 5 and then go off to find more if i like it. makes it more accessible

Yeah I meant something like this (link to genre thread), I know it's for people unfamiliar with certain genres/subgenres just thought it would be nice for people who've checked some of it already to add a list of lesser known producers/deeper insight into the genre.
Like a pastebin link with all the names and some people can add stuff, genre threads are nice and all but you end up checking the tunes which are in it and not further exploring the genre (personal expierence), I've been through most of the genre threads on DSF and whilst I've found many a gem still I feel my knowledge is very lackluster and I feel like I've limited myself to listening to those particular tunes listed rather then most of the artist/producers work. I also end up forgetting about some producers I wanted to check after hearing such a gem. But again that's personal expierence
I don't feel well educated at all tbf, still a nub but thank you I guess :)

going through labels is long, don't know about you but I end up checking every alias :/ and preferably every label associated xD
You also have the problem of labels changing directions/genres etc

yeah, i'm in the same boat. but at first i just check either releases that catch my eye (like a cool cover or a name or something), either producers i'm somewhat familiar with or been meaning to check out. and if i like what i hear, i dig a bit more

and if the label changed direction, even better; you can check out other genres as well
like, for instance, you just heard the newest swamp banger. you check the label out, you stumble onto their older dubstep releases

yeah true, label changing direction is more an asset than a problem always a lovely find when a producer/label you like dipped their toes in more than 1 genre you're fond of
