KRK rokit 6 buzzing issues

Post by balthazarely » Tue Oct 01, 2013 9:39 pm

Hey guys,
i turned my KRK Rokit 6's on yesterday and the right side speaker is making a strange crackling/buzzing sound. It sounds like the "paper" sound in the NI Massive noise section.

I unplugged the speaker from my interface and the sound goes on unchanged, so its gotta be within the speaker alone.

Anyone have any idea what this might be/how to fix it?
thanks in advance

Sounds like a ripped cone. Open up the speaker and take a peak inside.

If not, it might be Obama.

I would not go for speaker damage.
Did you change the way they are electrically plugged ?
It might be a ground loop.

I have the same with my KRK Roklit 5. A buzzing sound all the time, especially when using an app (like a game). The volume knob on the soundcard doesnt change the volume of the buzz. Does moving your mouse modulates the buzz ?

If so it's almost sure to be a ground loop. Look for an isolator to fix it. Or you can reduce it using balanced cables (instead of unbalanced RCA if it's your current setup).
It's weird that it comes from only 1 of the 2 speakers tho

How long are your cables? Are both speakers connected to the same outlet?

Yea. The one speaker part is what made me think it wasn't a ground loop, but as pointed out I guess it still could be.

Use high quality balanced cables. Something like a TRS to XLR cable from mogami will stop the buzzing.. I had the same problem until I changed my crappy cables.

are you on a laptop with the power cable plugged into the wall? if so, does the sound persist if you unplug the power cable?
Perfection is achieved, not when there is nothing more to add, but when there is nothing left to take away.

I would agree with either switching to high quality cables or some sort of grounding issue.
