Kryptic Minds - Pad

Post by f1rstsense » Sun Oct 20, 2013 8:23 pm

Hey guys,

I'm looking for a way to create this amazing Kryptic Minds vibe pad: (the one that goes upfront from the begining)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4-H69JMPlzI

also there is a very similar one in:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=28or5Fc0vuA

I think they got that nice movement by that trick what phalaeh revealed in his masterclass (adding back the highpitched reverb trhough a return) , but I might be mistaken, but it doesn't really matter since I' m struggleing to create the 'core sound'.

Any ideas?

Any ideas how should I go about it?

Thanks :)

Bests,
Alex

Sounds layered to me. I think it has some white noise, at a relatively low volume, high passed.

Then it sounds like a sine-based pad to me. Long drawn out notes (chords maybe?). Maybe 2 sines with some voices and detuning to give movement. Or very very slight LFO on pitch to give movement. They're probably also automating the filter, or using keytracking so that the filter changes according to which note is played. Then it's probably got effects like reverb and chorus, maybe very very slight flanging or phaser, because there certainly isn't THAT much movement (if were talking about the same pad), maybe even very slight distortion to add some harmonics.

Mind your amp envelope. You might not want that long of an attack for this pad. Don't really need decay (although you could if you want), just sustain and some release.

Then EQ obviously to round out any unwanted frequencies and cut the lows and very highs.

Just throwin' ideas out there for yuh. You'll have to experiment. No one can really tell you exactly how to make this pad.
