When I first watched the Sopranos, I remember thinking "OK, well, that's cool, but I've got to watch a whole season of this to finish the story? I think I'll just watch Goodfellas again." but having eased myself into lengthy TV series through a combination of Boardwalk Empire, The Borgias and finding a girl to have a nice cotch with, I've given it another go and it's EXCELLENT.
I've only just started the second series. I've got a whole winter of mob dopeness ahead of me.
Yeah, that's the best part about tv series imo. I hardly ever watch movies anymore because you can just watch a tv series that can go way more in depth with characters and plots than any movie. Only problem is I've pretty much exhausted them all. I've been watching Fringe lately.

I was the opposite, never watched long episode/series shows before Sopranos, got hooked and watched the whole thing one summer.
Just finished 6th episode of Band of Brothers. Fuck being a medic.
Curb Your Enthusiasm (I really hope a new season of this is coming out!)
It's comming next year. Instead of curb - he made a film that aired on hbo as a replacement -called clear history and it's exactly down the same street as curb is - Michael Keaton is surprisingly hilarious in it and theres the usual cameos plus danny mcbride etc.
I recently re-watched the first series of The League of Gentlemen, easily one of the most hilarious yet utterly bleak things I've ever seen. Also, I'm hopelessly addicted to Ancient Aliens, it's just so completely fucking stupid that it makes me laugh no end, also it REALLY annoys me brother when it's on which is equally as funny

I watched about half of the first series before running out of steam... decent, but it's definitely no Borgias. Felt a little bit too soap-like, tbh.
The guy that plays Henry VIII looks almost exactly like a DBA I work with.
I havent seen borgias either. the first episode put me off. think ill give that a whirl from the glowing recomendations it has here. save tudors till never.
i need a new historical drama. seen tudors, pillars of the earth, borgias (and the shitty version), and Band of Brothers although id prefer some medieval shizz
Not medieval but why not look into 'I, Claudius'. It's really very good although you might not like it because it's (I think) from the late 70s and all British actors.
Actually, don't read the Wiki page because it has massive spoilers if you don't know that period of ancient Roman history very well.
You might see it as a sequel to HBO's 'Rome' purely due to the time it's set (you wont see any battles or anything) - so it's Caesar's heir Augustus and his family line. It's basically about the murders, back-stabbings and power plays of the imperial family and how Claudius plays the fool in order to not seem a threat and so survive.
Edit - well, it's on YT.
First episode is feature length.

Oooh, never heard of Pillars of The Earth - looks promising! Recommended?
Yes. it was adapted from a book so there are some parts missing, but on the whole I really liked it. plus it has Donald Sutherland. There is a sequel series to it but i could never really get into it because it technically the same place, but like 100 years later and everything seemed off. but on a whole, yes watch it.
