Destroid sound design? (Excision, Downlink, Etc.)

Post by ShrapnelDubstep » Sat Oct 05, 2013 1:31 pm

So here is a tune I'm working on:

Soundcloud

Remember this is just the outline and still has all the time in the world to be worked on I put this together so I knew what to work with, so I'm inspired by Destroid's tunes after listening to them and wanted to see what I can do,

but as you can see in that rising bass section at about 00:14 I want the mids to be more gritty like on this track:

On that track around 1:37 you can hear the mids are really clean and gritty and that's what I'm going for, any tips/tutorials anywhere?
Thanks!

Have a great day :4:

The trick is not in the sound design itself but in the mastering, your sound is really tuny, you have to use compressors, EQ and vst like sausage fatner and camel phat / crusher to bring it to the next level.

It is not the sound you are looking for, but this tutorial can help you on how to make your sound louder. Look when it talk about camel and sausage.

Was going to say the same thing ^, but you want to really distort and bring up the sound in slow sequences. Either by a couple of sends or by resampling. Excision resamples basically everything and has a long chain of presets that he saves for his basses or leads like this. But on thing i can hear is very slight modulation of a downward hit in the Destroid song, like in massives performer mode and the lfo it routed to the filter of your liking and use a pretty generic wavetable like chrome, A.I, or throat. I used throat the other day and got some really gritty stuff messing with the intensity knob and the tables position with the bend sent to format i think?

Try it out but bounce out your clip and make it long because its sort of is for this case and start resampling! Also another good thing to do is if you have ohminicide is to adjust what frequency you want to distort, so look at your spectrum analyzer and see you dominate peaks and distort those or stuff around it. Use camplephat and sausage fattener to beef up your sound a bit more but do this in small doses or you will get to much much clipping. Also cut out some harsh stuff with an eq every now and then for a cleaner sound.
