I stand by you being certifiably crazy. Friendly suggestion, don't paint the keys. You'd need some kind of lead based radio active enamel to stick to a high use area like that. I can see the paint on those keys getting chipped w/in the first week. Then again, maybe you know something I don't?

neways, pics bro. Gonna need to see the pics.

Yeah I wasn't sure on how well the paint would last on keys. Although people paint their knobs and stuff which is almost as high traffic. It's plastic spray paint as well so it should adhere if I do the coats properly. Just a matter of how well it'd stand up to finger abuse. We shall see.

Pics will come once my parts arrive and I finish painting.

i just personally wouldnt paint my gear for the reason that i like the authenticity of each respective companies design and style and that the paint could cause issues to the parts, take it apart and spray it all separately, but id personally just use tape and marker pen to do any labelling etc..

if its just for aesthetics, i wouldnt bother taking the risk.

to each his own.

I'm not painting the keys for labeling. I'm painting them to go along with the rest of the keyboard blackout. Respecting the manufacturer's design ethos is great and all but I'd much rather customize it to my taste. The stock off-white/grey/red/orange/blue scheme that Akai's got going on isn't really doing it for me. Whereas a sunset skyline mural on the faceplate and black keys to go along with the rest of the hardware would look pretty damn fly.

Akai did an alright job with the Ableton Push. It'll end up being kind of that type of scheme. All satin black hardware with amber accents and light blue pads.

You are straight swishing, girlfriend.

That push looks pretty evil. You know there are similar devices in US torture facilities around the world.

This guy does some wild custom jobs. This MPC is kind of up my alley.

This one's pretty slick too:
http://ghostinmpc.com/now-on-sale-mpc25 ... n-graph-2/

I'm a bit worried about getting the button labels back on. I might spray paint the whole thing silver first and then mask out the text. Dunno if that'd be easier than trying to stencil it in over top at the end. I'm probably gonna spend a significant amount of time with tape and a razor. Wish I knew someone with a silkscreen setup.

Yeah, never plug it in, just pimp it. There is a potential for a gallery exhibit in your madness.

Maybe that's how I'll fund the addiction. Because otherwise not much willpower will actually be needed. Hard to blow all your money on gear when you already blew all your money on gear, namsayin?

haha +1 for the sig :Q:

Actually not a bad idea. Assuming I got really good at doing spray paint graphics, I could start a custom shop. That Ghost In MPC guy lives in Asia so shipping is a bit of a hassle. A domestic option for people in North America would be nice.

I think the kind of result you get from actually painting it on the faceplate is much better than a decal. The texture and artistic feedback you get from working with a physical medium is potentially a lot cooler than using a computer. Would be a good option for people who don't wanna mock up weak graphics in photoshop and get a skin printed.

This has me thinking about music making and the difference between physical instruments with character vs sterile software that doesn't get in your way but also has no vibe of its own.
