There's involved and there's controlling.
I don't force anything on my son.
He wants to participate with me in anyway possible.
Our relationship is rock solid and I wouldn't have it any other way.

If you have the sort of relationship with your kid that I have with my son you will understand.

Yesterday we took the dogs for a walk to the corner shop to buy a packet of chips.
It was a beautiful day and we took a slow 20 minute walk through my beautiful neighborhood chatting shit about everything.
It was great for both of us.

Can you imagine the difference in parenting skills, well mainly fathering skills, between people born in the 40's, 50s and maybe even 60's and people around our age? I mean, i'm only three generations removed from people that lived through the Victorian children-should-be-seen-and-not-heard era. A lot has changed ay.

I've been thinking a lot about that lately. My wife and I recently did 23andme, and it kind of brings you to think about your immediate, and fading into the distance, predecessors, the lives they lived, the evolutionary successes they were in the face of adversity.

I imagine how unknowable the past is. Even through histories and various works of art, that stuff is dead to us in a way. Really what was it like to be a kid back then, what was it like to actually be your great great grandmother?!

But then I think about my daughter. She is like Eve. The past will begin with her. Every minute detail of her life will be recorded. Her descendants will be able to go back and actually watch her existence, they can know her and the world she lived in. And they'll so wonder about her grandparents, what it was like in an analog world.

The future is a trip.
