Having trouble trying to get your music noticed?

Post by OfficialDisKrete » Tue Nov 12, 2013 9:41 am

Okay, so after nearly four years of production now i have discovered that getting recognition as a talented producer can be fairly difficult, trust me, i know. :u: :q:

I am making this post to help you guys out and stop you from making the same mistakes i did. :W:

As most of you know soundcloud is one of the most efficient way of getting your music 'out there' but uploading your track is only the beggining. If you do not put the effort into promoting your music don't expect to be going anywhere. :z:

Be sure to use websites such as Soundcloud.com Dubstepforum.com Facebook.com Youtube.com etc. to promote your work.
I found out a little technique to getting a few more followers on soundcloud. It's a well respected fact that people you follow will normally follow you back, so go to the followers of one of your faviroute artists and just follow as many people as possible, this way people will follow you back and see your music. :4:

This is just one of many techniques i have discovered, more to come soon.

Go out there andmake me proud minions :Q:

That's kinda lame if you ask me, like a hit and hope. Why not try getting involved in the SC community, listening to people's work and dropping a few comments. I have spent countless hours checking out other people's stuff and giving my opinion's, and have noticed it's those people who appreciate it most that will in turn visit your page and return the favour, so to speak. Thus striking up actual connection's with people who share the same interest's rather just have another notch to your follower's headboard, for want of a better phrase. :D

Nah nah, that's completely unacceptable in the, want everything right now society. I have just cracked Ableton, got myself a Soundcloud account and now I simply must have at least 2500 follower's, right now, or what's the point!?!?

If you've been producing for >6 months and haven't been "signed" to at least four net labels, you're doing it wrong.

I think the whole "if you make good tunes you'll get noticed" mentality is quite shit to be quite frank. I am just as sure there are some mad geniuses out there making music they never get around to promoting because they are so engaged in the process as I am sure there are a million shitty "EDM" producers all jerking each other off with their "cool tune bro feedback4feedback" posts and "net labels".

Shoving a piece of media in consumers faces so often they have no choice but to consume it and you'll get noticed. We know product quality is irrelevant to the masses.

My favorite post recently on another site was dude introducing himself and said something like "I've been into EDM since I was 9 years old".
B4ckdraft wrote:Hey guys I'm kind of hung up on this issue right now. I'm pursuing a career as a firefighter paramedic at the moment but my passion is in music. I fell in love with EDM 12 years ago when I was about 9 years old, I'm 21 now. I started producing and dj'ing about 3 or 4 years ago before the whole scene got absolutely huge. I really wanted to try pursuing a career as a DJ/Producer but none of my family or friends supported me so it has been very hard trying to work on it even in my free time because I get grief from my family mostly my parents. I'm still pursuing the career as a Firefighter but I don't believe it's really my passion. I don't want to grow up with regrets by not following my passion but I also don't want to fully commit to DJ'ing and producing and find myself 30 years later with nothing to show for it. Please if anyone has any advice or is in a similar situation that'd be great to hear from you.

I also love that, apparently, "Backdraft" was his inspiration to become a firefighter based on his user name. Whole post is pretty hilarious IMO.

What an absolutely huge waste of time that was...this whole post...I am fucking lame...hope someone gets a laugh...

EDIT: This post makes no sense. /EDIT

You need your own manager then you will get signed/ booked.

Who cares about managers and being signed? As long as you get load's of people blindly following you through blindly following people on known page's, you're famous, right?

I think that from the start of your music production life you should be really friendly and build a huge group of great producers around you that you can share your music with and share feedbacks etc.
It will be much easier to get noticed by bigger groups when you start releasing some legit shit. :3

Also don't rush with releasing tunes, take your time and get good equipment first! :4:
