So.... i sort of change your sub patch with the waveshaper to some growl thingfirstboyonthemoon wrote:So here's my quick and dirty attempt at that "Splurt" bass:

It's fair to say that it's not quite there. It sounds to me like the original is sidechained, but with a weird release that I can't figure out how to emulate. Maybe using a white noise generator as a trigger instead of a drum hit?

Sorry for going wayyyyy off topic but i felt like sharing.
But i found this so hilarious how what one waveshaper did to a sine wave lol.

Can anyone help recreate the sound at 1 minute 22 seconds. The short stabs.

Im bad with getting waveforms correctly, Sounds like pitch decreases or a lowpass filter closing over time with short amp envelope on each note trigger to create the stab. Just struggling to recreate the basis of the sound before automation

Re: The Sub/Low-Mid Range Bass Thread
Sounds like a couple of saws or maybe squares, detuned a little bit, with an LFO on either cutoff or volume, not quite sure, which is giving you that stab sound as you put it. they then automate the LFO rate a little bit. Then they also use filtering to give it some character, both low AND high pass (because the sub sounds like a different patch). I don't really hear an envelope on pitch or anything if that's what youre thinking, but I could be wrong. Give it a shot.Kane6789 wrote:Can anyone help recreate the sound at 1 minute 22 seconds. Re: The Sub/Low-Mid Range Bass Thread
I've been trying to get this bass patch down. I think I've got pretty damn close but there is still something missing. I'm not sure what it is but I'm thinking it's some weird effect that you wouldn't think of like reverb or something. I'm just after the sound, not the notes, but I used the notes (and drums) from Smear Dub to make it easier for people to see what I'm talking about. Here is my patch:
Soundcloud
It's just a sine with a bit of attack and release on the amp envelope, lowpassed with some filter drive (sylenth), LFO on volume of course, and then some overdrive in sylenth and as an effect in ableton, a tiny bit of compression, and then some more lowpassing at the end. I found that adding some attack and release to the amp envelope really made a difference for me, but it's definitely still missing something that gives it that timbre.
Here's the sound I'm after (0:27):
Do you think I should use a different oscillator than a sine? If you guys have any suggestions I would appreciate it a lot. Thanks

Re: The Sub/Low-Mid Range Bass Thread
id try maybe back off the low pass a bit and if that doesnt work try mixing ing a triangle wave to add some harmonics

Re: The Sub/Low-Mid Range Bass Thread
i added a triangle and it didn't sound much different but then i messed with the phase and as long as either the sine or the triangle is at inverted it gives it a nice timbre.
thanks for the tip mate.

Re: The Sub/Low-Mid Range Bass Thread
Yeah I'd try triangles with some unison detuning. There is also a fair bit of reverb on it.
Blaze it -4.20dB
