Are those producers more talented than me? At making club bangers maybe. I could probably school most of them in a producing from scratch competition though. No presets, no premade samples, etc. They also make music that I strongly hate though, so it's apples to oranges. They are standing out more than I am, of course. Much like that drunk guy that likes to stand on tables at parties. Not my style.
Ignoring the fact that what you've stated is pure speculation, I would love to see you go head to head with Sub Focus in a producing from scratch contest. Would love it.
2nd bolded:
This is not a valid analogy and is just more elitism.
The most important thing to take away from this quoted bit is that earlier you were mocking those producers, and now you're saying "Oh sure maybe they're better at making club bangers than I am, but...
You're inconsistent, SunkLo.
And there are many, but no, all it would take is any of the names on the list I gave you. Knife Party is not a beatport wannabe. Are Vengeance samples ONLY used by beatport wannabes? No of course not, all it would take for that to be untrue would be a single person who's not making that kind of music.
Or because they're actually good, and the producers like the way they sound, ...I'm sure there's people out there who use them out of habit or laziness or because they heard they were good and don't really give a fuck, etc.
Yes it is. Here's why:But I can make generalizations. And it isn't that absurd of a generalization to say that a lot of people who are too lazy to make their own drum sounds are also probably too lazy to make their own synth patches.
That's faulty logic, actually. It's the "if you like pre-made yadda yadda, then you like pre-made such-and-such too."If we look at things logically, why would pre-made samples appeal to someone who likes to craft their own sounds?
A proper analogy for your argument is: "Why would pre-made hot sauce appeal to someone who enjoys cooking? They should surely want to make their hot sauce from scratch if they like to craft their own meals."
Who wants to mangle things beyond recognition? If I'm just gonna mangle things beyond recognition, why would I fork out money for Vengeance samples when I can just synthesize or sample something for free?
There is no truth in what you're saying. No logic.I'm sorry if your butt got hurt but it's silly to deny the kernel of truth in what I'm saying.
I never claimed to know who the Vengeance samples are targeted at, but I'll tell you what -- it's probably not those people. Because those people are the ones likely to pirate them.Like I said, if you wanna be like skrillex and avicii et al.[READ: MASSIVELY SUCCESSFUL, NICE PEOPLE, HAVE THEIR OWN UNIQUE SOUND] then you'll probably like Vengeance samples. All the power to you. But you can't try to play both sides of the fence and claim that these overprocessed samples aren't specifically targeted at people who just wanna produce by numbers.
Regardless, I'm not going to make that point the basis of my argument, which is what you're trying making it sound like I was doing in order to claim that I'm "playing both sides of the fence."
You're not a better producer than Sub Focus, Skrillex, Knife Party, or any of that lot. And you're not more prominent than any of them.
None of the top producers are chastising beatport wannabe scrubs for using Vengeance samples. Only forum jockeys like you.
As soon as I posted those links showing all the producers that use Vengeance samples, your claim was proven wrong. You can't attempt to mask that by changing your claim last minute. It was never about who the samples are targeted at -- that's a red herring.
I'm not offended by anything you posted, you're making up a narrative to throw a personal jab at me and that's just childish.Maybe you're in denial about what kind of producer you or your heroes are and that's why you get offended. Not my problem.
Additionally, I have 0 interest in composing a 4 bar drum loop to prove that I'm a better producer than you are when that's not the topic of discussion. If my argument was "Fuck you SunkLo, I'm a way better producer than you are," then maybe I'd be interested in such a game. But that's not the argument, so don't you pretend like I'm tucking my tail between my legs for not seriously addressing some dude's inane post.
You're fucking finished, man.

Re: Vengeance Dubstep Samples
Seeing as I'm the inane dude, let me just say fuck you Jean-Claude and your garbage cookie-cutter music. All of your songs are copycat imitations of other bland pop soul destroying moneymaking music. Nothing you've ever done has a single spark of originality, inspiration or even humanity. At your best, you are a facsimile.claudedefaren wrote:so don't you pretend like I'm tucking my tail between my legs for not seriously addressing some dude's inane post.

Yeah that'd be fun. Doubt that'll ever happen though.claudedefaren wrote:I would love to see you go head to head with Sub Focus in a producing from scratch contest. Would love it.
It's valid in my eyes because it encapsulates my disdain for "standing out" as a virtue. Lots of things stand out. The smell of feces for instance. That's not really a criteria I care about.claudedefaren wrote:This is not a valid analogy and is just more elitism.
No I'm pretty consistent. I still maintain that no producers I respect are making heavy use of Vengeance like you're saying. Admitting they're better at making club bangers is like admitting gays are better at buttsex. Maybe if I were to put in the effort to develop that specific skill we could do a direct comparison but like I said, apples to oranges. From a strictly holistic perspective, I don't really hold those producers in high esteem. I just don't idolize guys who make derivative EDM. My criteria for a great producer is evidently different from yours.claudedefaren wrote:The most important thing to take away from this quoted bit is that earlier you were mocking those producers, and now you're saying "Oh sure maybe they're better at making club bangers than I am, but...

Knife Party is pretty gash so you'll have to excuse me if I don't concede this point.claudedefaren wrote:And there are many, but no, all it would take is any of the names on the list I gave you. Knife Party is not a beatport wannabe.
No a proper analogy is "Why would someone who likes to make their own sauce pay extra for the name brand hot sauce instead of making their own from scratch?" Pre-made hot sauce is great if you're trying to throw a meal together. But you wouldn't say "check out my home-made hot sauce!" when it's just store bought with extra salt added.claudedefaren wrote:A proper analogy for your argument is: "Why would pre-made hot sauce appeal to someone who enjoys cooking? They should surely want to make their hot sauce from scratch if they like to craft their own meals."
Evidently some people. If you read back through the thread where mromgwtf was extolling the virtues of Vengeance, he had a nice long scroll of recipe steps to transform a Vengeance sample into something nice. If I'm gonna have to do that many steps to get something useable, why not just start off with some free samples and cut out some work?claudedefaren wrote:Who wants to mangle things beyond recognition?
Okayyyy then... As long as you can handle being known as "that silly guy" That's a haunting monicker you shouldn't take lightly.claudedefaren wrote:There is no truth in what you're saying. No logic.I'm sorry if your butt got hurt but it's silly to deny the kernel of truth in what I'm saying.
Well no, sorry it wasn't. At least not to me. Maybe if it had been a list of decent producers instead of neon bro fist pump club producers. Regardless, this is the classic appeal to authority. I don't care if Jesus Arthur Christ used 100% Vengeance on his first 2 beattapes. If they're over-processed generic sounding samples, they're over-processed generic sounding samples. And Jesus could have saved himself some time and expensive turd polish by using better source sounds.claudedefaren wrote:As soon as I posted those links showing all the producers that use Vengeance samples, your claim was proven wrong. I think the targeted audience is relevant since that's who the samples are being made for. If Vengeance is targeting the paint-by-numbers types, they're obviously gonna make.... over-processed generic sounding samples! (shocking, I know)
Well I mean, that does kind of make you look like a pussy, since you've been insulting my producing ability throughout your posts without having any clue as to my skill level. Maybe I'm a Flying Lotus alt?claudedefaren wrote:Additionally, I have 0 interest in composing a 4 bar drum loop to prove that I'm a better producer than you are when that's not the topic of discussion. I'd like to see a list of everyone that has gotten into an argument this big with Sunklo...
Re: Vengeance Dubstep Samples
The list is looong. Sunk is like the cuddly production mascot, who is also a pitbull.

Top 3 ways to cause an argument on an internet forum:
1. State a different opinion.
