Is my laptop's sound card enough?

Post by mromgwtf » Thu Nov 14, 2013 3:22 pm

Is my laptop's sound card enough to power 55 ohm headphones? Do I need a headphone amp?
Also, the impedance goes up to 150 ohms at 100hz, does it mean I'll have weak 100 hz without amp?

If you're serious about producing, you'll want to get an (external) audio interface. There's tons of useful ideas in the guide to producing dubstep sticky. I recommend starting there.

Ableton Live 9, NI Komplete Audio 6, KRK Rokit 5's, Sennheiser 380 HD Pros, Novation Launchpad, and ma Producing Rig.

Best get a headphone amp or as suggested a decent interface with sufficient power.

Your laptop soundcard would be low volume and not dynamically acceptable.

It depends on what sound card you've got, some are better than others. My Asus G750 has a headphone amp built in, so it's got enough power and saves me carrying around a USB interface when producing on the move.

I'd check out the laptop's specs if I was you.
