How would I make drum samples like this?

Post by Saol » Tue Nov 26, 2013 7:11 am

I'm just wondering how I would get samples like the ones used in this track? It pretty much sounds like there's not many higher frequencies but when I EQ some kicks or something, it loses it's power? So, is there some sort of effect I can put on some drum samples? Or would I have to get the samples like that in the first place, and if so, where?

Thanks :)

Pretty sick song.

First off, listening to it, you can hear that most, if not all, of the percussive elements are being low-passed to some degree.
Some more noticeable than others, it's there. It's just a matter of degrees. The reason it sounds good is because of the context in which it's used in this song.
You could try low passing just slightly, and then "scooping" out middle range frequencies of certain sounds. It's usually better practice to remove freqs than add them.

As for where you could get samples like this, record your own! Ultimate creative freedom mate.

That was a sick song though. Really nice.
