Au5 Bass

Post by Descended » Mon Mar 18, 2013 11:56 pm

Dudes,
I've seen people posting songs with this bass sound like Au5 uses in his songs but I have no idea how to remake it (just for shits n giggles)
I was browsing Fallout remixes on soundcloud and found like 5 dudes posting songs with it.
Maybe with freq shifter and chorus?

What specific bass?

Edit: Well, from the Strider remix, I'd assume the thick "machine gun" like bass. No idea, but I've recreated basses that are like cousins to it. :|

i was thinking the exact same thing last week and put a few hours into making Au5 inspired sounds. obviously uses massive, but i found that i was able to get pretty close to the metallically feel that he goes for by using the mod osc section, bandrejects, and the EQ section. the low mid section of this sounds seems to have a notch so try lowering the boost and freq, as well as raising the high. in the mod osc, try raising the ring mod to get a less harsh sound that you can beef out later. from here, i often add some feedback and send it to Filter 1, which i often use a double notch on and modulate it between 11-1 o clock. here gives you that talky sound. you can rout it to the second filter now which i often make a reject, bandpass, comb or scream. a tiny bit of tube distortion will help you too, just use VERY sparingly or else your should will sound like shit. the insert FX are great for getting the sound too. try light amounts of the the different shappers and mess about with where they are being inserted in the patch. the frequency shifter is really going to be the icing on the cake. I think Au5 uses it all the time to get the smooth digital wobbles. i use it mostly to just color the sound. usually put wet/dry about 50% and then play with the pitch.

Remember to EQ, compress the sound after the patch, and make use of other creative effects (flanger, phaser, etc.).

some waveforms that will get you those nasty digital sounds are chrome, digigrain I and II, AI, etc..... just fuck with wavetables and shit and you'll get there.
my suggestion is you watch this video and keep following that crunchy/digital/talking sound that seamless gets so nicely....

You can make the bass from a builtin preset in razor. Go to the Errorsmith section and pick the Rubber Wobble patch. Turn up the cuttof on filter 2. There you go! Souds better then any tutorial you've watch, huh?

Most of his basses are just slightly tweaked razor errorsmith presets. He uses them well though, I suppose the music is more important than the sound design to him.

Guys, Au5 used Razor 2 years ago and stopped, he uses a different technique now I heard. If you have FL, use harmor's phaser with low width and automate the speed.
