This is what the DSF has been reduced to.

There is nothing like returning to a place that remains unchanged to find the ways in which you yourself have altered.
Nelson Mandela
Every death thread is filled with stupid jokes from the off.

Just because someone is up on a higher pedastal than Paul walker or Margret thatcher does not mean that they are off limits and to think it would be a sombre affair on DSF is almost naive.
Also bear in mind there are going to be people for varrying reasons that
A. Dont even know of him outside of being "that african guy"
B. Dont care because he has probably had no impact on them in any way, ever.
C. Do it because they are bored and its friday

Oh well, I only mentioned the freeman thing out of surprise and then the 2nd was an attempt to bring abit of humour to all the arguing pointlessness.

/friday
Edit: wubs twitter post only reinforces the dont know point.

Perhaps you are unaware of a very recent major Hollywood film about Mandela starring Morgan Freeman?

Invictus was such a bunch of crap.
They even fabricated relationships between Pienaar and Mandela to give the movie more of a story line.

My old Saffa housemate and I went to see it all hyped up on opening night... I think it might be one of the main reasons for my irrational dislike of Matt Damon.

I was speaking about this on facebook with someone earlier. It is entirely possible for people to change their mind. I have an intense dislike for Cameron, but I barely think the same shit as I did when I was 18/19 and that was only 5 years ago, let alone 30 years later.

Also, at the time Mandela probably was considered a "terrorist" and not known for his better deeds as we know him now.

Yeah, agreed. Cameron was effectively an impressionable kid towing the party line there, it's disgusting, but so are some of the things I thought about Zionists when I was that age; I imagine he's deeply embarrassed of any part he had. But the fact that this is how the rest of the world tried to treat the ANC is exactly what I was talking about with regard to Mandela's tactics. If you can't even convince the 'leaders of the free world' to support you when trying to topple one of the most disgusting regimes of the 20th Century, how are you going to proceed without calling attention to the cause without some violence? The Ghandi/MLK route simply wasn't an option in South Africa. In fact, even America needed some violence and they didn't have to go as far as 'regime change'.

Mandela's legacy isn't tainted by the blood on his hands, his legacy was made with it. We would have no clue who he or the ANC were if they'd merely "campaigned" rather than gone to war.
