Re: [Poll] How Many Ninjas Aren't Football Fans?
I was brought up in a rugby union/league family to think soccer was for poofs.
But it's good to kick a ball around & be active
so over the years I started following the Soceroos, Sydney & West Brom.
Quite often it's boring & my allegiances aren't enough to keep me engaged
or I can become aware of how ridiculous the adulation of guys kicking balls is & turn off.
Personally, I learnt a lot from playing & coaching the contact codes
and believe a lot of kids would be better adjusted by exercising some physical courage
& understanding physical confrontation in the context of rules for acceptable behaviour
(instead of being snotty, knife-wielding opportunists)
Ultimately, whatever physical activity, particularly team sports, that you're into
it's participation not spectating that's important imo.

you dont see fights and riots and violence there do ya
just take a step back and realise what your eyes are seeing when you're watching a match.
what your eyes are seeing is SHIT
People liking different things, who'd have thought?
Tbf, I've been going to football matches for about 20 years and I've never seen a fight or riot, and that's supporting a team who are historically linked to hooliganism.
Dunno, maybe there's more fights because more people go to football than cricket or tennis? Could be a numbers game? Football is traditionally a working class sport as well, whereas tennis especially isn't.
Either way, I don't particularly like most fans, but I don't like most fans of dubstep either. I still like football and dubstep though.
Every now and then this sports discussion pops up, and it seems to imply that people that like sports are idiots, but the most idiotic comments come from the people slagging sports in the first place. I can't explain why I like most things very well, I just do. Just seems like you're vexed because people aren't talking about things you want to talk about all the time. I ain't particularly bothered about fashion, I'm not gonna cry if people start talking about it because they are.

It's almost culturally that you should like football…
Fuck norms i don't follow many. I use to really like it when as i young, but now i'm only interested in big games. I can't even name 3/4 of many times, expect for theses who have been around for a long time. The rest of them a new comers

Re: [Poll] How Many Ninjas Aren't Football Fans?
Hmm, I'd say a lot of TOP-LEVEL players fit that stereotype, but you gotta remember that probably 90% of pro footballers out there are just normal folk like me and you.Laszlo wrote:No it isn't.dididub wrote:Laszlo wrote:the people who play professionally are all big-girls-blouses and lack sportsmanship![]()

Re: [Poll] How Many Ninjas Aren't Football Fans?
Yeah that, top level. All wastemen that should be hamstrung if found to be diving.
Re: [Poll] How Many Ninjas Aren't Football Fans?
Defo! After getting more and more into American Football over the past few years, and seeing some of the injuries people played on with has made me even more pissed off at diving/faking injuries. Seeing Danny Amendola in a full shouting match with his coach because he wouldn't let him play on with a broken collarbone is a strong case.Laszlo wrote:Yeah that, top level. Re: [Poll] How Many Ninjas Aren't Football Fans?
the most annoying thing is when you meet any bloke the first thing they ask is "what team do you support?"
and when you say you don't like football they look at you like you just called their mum a bumlicker

Its usually followed by an awkward conversation with them asking "well what sports DO you like?!
Re: [Poll] How Many Ninjas Aren't Football Fans?
when they ask you what sport you DO like they're not talking about football ^

clearly...mIrReN wrote:when they ask you what sport you DO like they're not talking about football ^
But they look at you like football is the only sport out there, and you're crazy if you dont follow it
Re: [Poll] How Many Ninjas Aren't Football Fans?
Yeah i've had that a fair few times in my life largely due to having a ""working class"" job - so in a work situation 'what team do you support' will be a very early, if not first, question, while in a non work situation it'll be 'what do you do for a living' closely followed by the team question.
Then it's as Sheff describes and/or suspicions about homosexuality.
Garethom - I'm not a massive fan of American football but i've got a ton of respect for the sportsmanship you described, wanting to be there for the team etc. Most of these top level football players seem like they'd sit a game out if they cracked a nail.

Re: [Poll] How Many Ninjas Aren't Football Fans?
In Manchester, it's the law, you have to answer 'What are you ? a Blue or a Red?' on your first shift. If you answer 'Not into football' you will be labelled a weirdo and never asked to participate in simpleton pondlife for the duration of your employment, if you answer a team outside of Manchester, you will be banter fodder for the rest of your days. Used to work with a guy that was a Millwall fan (Londoner, Obviously) from the second day, he was known simply as Millwall, some staff didn't even know his real name was Stephen.Laszlo wrote:Yeah i've had that a fair few times in my life largely due to having a ""working class"" job - so in a work situation 'what team do you support' will be a very early, if not first, question.
