What's with the essays

I think people are being very quick to judge things, i personally try to give new Burial a month or two before i decide, but thats just because i think that i never immediately resonate with his music.

imo if music doesnt sound sick the first couple of listens then why should the i bother forcing myself to listen to it again and again until i "like" it, when i could be listening to something i deem worthwhile? just really, really silly imo haha

Burial has always been about making his listeners feel welcome

You've never had a tune or album that on repeat listens grew on you massively? I remember hearing Guido - Anidea when it came out, and I was like "what the fuck is this shit? ". Went back and gave it another listen a year or so later, and it clicked, and now it's one of my most favourite albums. Don't need to sit there and listen to it, Clockwork Orange style, over and over until you like it.

100% agree with you usually it takes a couple listens at least to even hear all the different sounds, I think maybe its a product of the digital age where if you don't immediately love something people will write it off.

That will be interesting, I'm still not really buying that the song released on youtube are actual the EP. Mainly because this Ep is pretty awful,I mean the name 'Rival Dealer' is so bad it all most feels like a parody. Plus the voice sample's the (ending voice sample in come down to us ) really have to be a pisstake.

I know kode 9 is a grumpy fucker but to release a shit Ep to piss people is a bit of stretch(If that was too it would be great ) . It all feels a bit shifty,

imo u can tell first listen whether a tune is worth the re-listens. ofc there's tunes that ive listened to multiple times and theyve grown on me b2b ive noticed great new details, but usually i'd already recognised the tunes awesomeness fist time round.
and ye ive heard beats years ago and been all "nah, aint for me" re-listened years down the line and been all "woaaah, actually...", but thats mainly down to changes in taste. i highly highly highly doubt this is one of those occasions

The songs on Youtube are taken from the release. You can buy the release on Hyperdubs website.. thats how they're on Youtube to begin with. Unless Kode 9 goes LOL JKS and refunds everybody who has brought them.. that is the actual release.

Wow. Okay. Maybe you're too young to have that experience where you hated something, or didn't get it at all, you've tried, because people whose tastes you admire have praised it, yet you don't get it. Yet every once in awhile, you just had to go back and listen again, not even knowing why. And then, disgustedly you turn it off again. And then a year later, finding yourself for some strange reason wanting to hear it again, even thought you hate it. And you put it on, and suddenly everything clicks, reality shifts, you suddenly "get it," and what you're hearing is a revelation, and your mind has expanded in ways you didn't know it could.

The first time that happened with me was, strangely enough, with Van Morrison's Astral Weeks, when I was a teen. I hated it. I wanted to throw the album against the wall, snap the vinyl over my knees. It was the most annoying album I ever heard, unlistenable, his voice was horrible and over-singing, and what was with the flutes. Yet I kept coming back to it. And getting really annoyed and turning it off again. Must have been at least a year before I realized I was hearing the greatest album ever made. (I've had that experience with other albums, and other genres of music, like Husker Du's Zen Arcade - which, by the way, Burial referenced a track from that album in one of his interviews. As far from d&b/jungle as one can get.)

Personally, that's why I love music. Those discoveries and revelations.

Wow. Okay. no really, please patronise me some more you ageist little sausage

age has nothing to do with this. you enjoy doing that, fair enough, i can accept that. personally i think its an absolutely massive waste of time. i have mind expanding musical revelations frequently by listening to music i ENJOY. of course ive chanced across things that ive disliked in the past and suddenly realised the appeal, and its nice when that does happen. but im not going to go out of my way and actively force myself to listen to music i hate on the off chance that i suddenly start to enjoy it. if i wanted to force myself to have some revelations i would drop some acid and go frolic in nature

i think this release is forgettable and average.

btw imagine if those sites had the bollocks to negatively review a burial release? there'd be an uproar of mindless burial drones. and why would they stab their good buddies over at hyperdub in the back? music politics m8

i guess some people here just have the ability to look at music objectively?
