hiya there! wouldnt mind hearin the stuff your makin...any cello samples in?Paradigm X wrote:a very wise man once said 90% of everything is rubbishDramaGeddon wrote: I know its not all like that, but it's 30% weak liquid, 30% terrible amen/reece noise, 30% jump-up clown shit and 10% decent dNb.
worth a ponder.
I see dubstep as an addition to dnb, not a replacement. Give it time and all the things you hate about dnb will have come into dubstep.
Theres good music in all genres, just hard to find the good tracks. To my mind, as dubstep is so new, theres not that many tunes to go thru and therefore its easier to find the good stuff. DNB has been around what 12 years or so (dont want to get into an argument about hardcore/jungle/dnb terminology and dates) so theres far more stuff to wade thru. See above.
But im having a load of fun writing dubstep at the mo so i couldnt care less about ships, jumping or otherwise.

ah nice one, getting that now, umm the cello is at standstill atm, havnt had the time or energy to do much with it, but it looks nice in the corner of my bedroom beside my vase of flowers lol....i'm not concerned cos i hadn't planned to get my cello till i was 50 anyway, so i'm still 1.5 years ahead of schedule hahaParadigm X wrote:hi

Yea Im not jumping ships/saying its a replacement etc... just having healthy/unhealthy music banter! Ive never restricted myself to one style anyway. Its just all the elements I loved in DnB are pretty much extinct now and have raised their ugly head in dubstep.. and for me thats very exciting!skosh wrote:Paradigm X wrote:a very wise man once said 90% of everything is rubbishDramaGeddon wrote: I know its not all like that, but it's 30% weak liquid, 30% terrible amen/reece noise, 30% jump-up clown shit and 10% decent dNb.

It ain't about jumping ship - just about moving with teh times. I was bang into hip house once upon a time, and belgian hardcore once upon another time and so on etc. I still love listening to jungle and I'd still go to a jungle/dnb dance, but if it fell on the same night as a dubstep night, I'd choose the latter as I've done the dnb rave thing to death.

i reckon the trick is, to free your mind...
listen, without imposing boundaries or prejudice of any kind and you'll discover so much music to love..
my favourite d&b record of this moment is Amit's new album 'Never Ending' up-coming on Klute's label Commercial Suicide in May.. it's outstanding..
droppin' a beat from it on the show Monday...
as well as spankin' new Benga, Oris Jay and Hijak dubz

seconded. the klute&amit tour just came through new york last week, and absolutely destroyed the place. dirtbox from the album, is a real dirty tune. amit is amazing.mary anne hobbs wrote: my favourite d&b record of this moment is Amit's new album 'Never Ending' up-coming on Klute's label Commercial Suicide in May.. it's outstanding..

Yea I know Amit and I have to give him props he's doing his own thing and its working, but as a scene I think the walls of creativity have become narrower and up and coming producers are scared to express themselves and are just playing it safe writing a club banger.mary anne hobbs wrote:i reckon the trick is, to free your mind...

I love all good music Im not trying to be negative about the genre, but back when Source direct, photek, hidden agenda, krust etc.. were experimenting with minimal DnB it worked so well..
I know its just evolution of a genre.. but sometimes evolution doesn't do any favours for the music, look at American rap/hip-hop... sold its soul for money.. now that's the 'true' power of the dollar!
