Audio Technica or Beyerdynamic?
Audio Technica or Beyerdynamic?
I want to get some new headphones for everyday production what are some of your opinions on the Audio Technica MTH-50s compared to the Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pros

Personally I've heard Beyerdynamic has the best flat response and an even better low end cap.
Maybe you can even chime in about the headphones you use..post away!

I got 990s from Beyer and they are my favourite headphones. Go for them.
Disclaimer: I don't know what they are like for production...

Re: Audio Technica or Beyerdynamic?
beyer for the build quality (nuclear bomb proof) and the frequency response. if you want extra-flatness in your headphones get the 880's. they are semi-open so they might be bad for the office but they are perfect for production. one of those areas where the little bit of extra money goes a long way.
not knocking audiotechnica at all but i know for a fact their build quality isn't up to par. however the price isn't either so it's up to you.

I have audio technicas, they are great (ath m35s) for the price tag of 45 quid. not a brilliantly flat response but yea they are nice enough. I would go with beyers if they are in your price range tho
Re: Audio Technica or Beyerdynamic?

Re: Audio Technica or Beyerdynamic?
I have a pair of the MTH-50's. I've never used they Beyers, so I can't compare sound quality, but I can tell you that the build quality on the ATs is fine. I've had mine for 3 years now and they're good as new. Just take care of them.
I have noticed that the mids in particular can sound pretty different between my headphones, monitors and various stereos, but that's life.

Either 990 or m50. Both are fine choices.

Thanks for your opinions man, yeah I'm getting a lot of consistent feedback about the Beyers with response and sound quality.JizzMan wrote:for that price, you wont get anything better than the M50s, I love my pair. but if you can afford it, the beyers are flatter and even more production-oriented

Re: Audio Technica or Beyerdynamic?
If you plan on getting the Beyers you're going to need an amp.
Check out headfi.org for headphone related stuff, lots of information there.
I personally use Denon ah-d5000's. Only for listening though as their sound is definitely colored. Wouldn't recommend them for production.
Dunno how much you have looked into headphones, but some other factors to consider might be open vs closed design, soundstage, comfort and most importantly budget
. Again, best resource would probably be the forums on headfi.org .

I went to guitar center and snagged the Beyer DT 770 Pros they are amazing! I don't have an amp so I got the 80 OHMS If I got the 250s I would need an amp for sure.wysockisauce wrote:If you plan on getting the Beyers you're going to need an amp.

Thanks man they work wonders.difference wrote:nice, good choice there
Re: Audio Technica or Beyerdynamic?
I see you already bought them but here's another vote for the DT 770s. I have a pair from the mid 80s that still sound fantastic. Replaced the leather on them last year since it was all cracked and peely and they're like brand new again. Meanwhile the AKG 240s I bought new I've had to re solder connections in twice.
Re: Audio Technica or Beyerdynamic?
definitely the beyers

on a DJ-tip: anybody got to lay hands on the new Sennheisers already? they're on display at CES. they look a bit too fancy for my taste; I like the sturdy and stripped-down design of the HD25-II. the over-ear design is a welcome change though.
