Disregarding some of the somewhat "out-there" conjectures simply as conjectures for the moment, the plant response thing has been known for some time. While plants may not be sentient in the ways that we typically define sentience or sense things the way we sense things (nerve cells), I don't think it is entirely unlikely that they do not "feel" things in some way because some can and do produce physiological responses to certain stimuli.

After all, is a Venus Flytrap that much different from a Jellyfish or sea anemone?
