not the best joker tune by a long way though imo. I've got 3 in my top 50 i think, all better than Tron.

Loefah - Mud and horror show, for being pure classics if nothing else
Kahn - Dread
Peverelist - Roll with the punches
Mala - anti war dub
Pinch - qawwali

honorable mention goes out to Skeng for sheer banger nature and endless wheels and plays 6-7 years after its release
while dread is a big tune, its almost a cliché tbh. There are better Kahn tunes. Still though, hearing Dread in the dance is
:gunfinger:
and the VIP even more so

can't say i full agree man, dmz stuff is definitely overrated. the prices don't even reflect that they're just stupid, but releases like mud/antiwar dub and haunted/lean forward (i'm sure everyone else has different favourites etc) have got to be the quintessential dubstep releases; dark minimal and amazing on a system. they might be b8 and overplayed but it isn't a stretch to say they're some of the best at all
yeah i agree quintessential classics, some of their tunes define dubstep for me and some are my favourites. But the best? its not that they're overplayed or more famous i just don't think that they made the best dubstep tune and never had (its the same with Skream). It's producers like appleblim, shackleton, pev, pangeaa, toasty, boxcutter, vex'd, burial, pinch, d1, guido, distance, horsepower productions that are just a step above

there is a difference between a tune being your favorite and it being the best dubstep tune

i get your point, but in a few years probably someone will say the same about appleblim, shackleton, pev, pangeaa, toasty, boxcutter etc and will drop some new names.

cause time brings innovation and new sounds. but those guys who made history (even if personal) will always be remebered and loved :Q:

(not that the artists you called din't took a huge part in writing history as well.)

+ nice to see so many people still remember (maybe even live?) in that darkroom-skanking-haze, out to you guys! :Q:

Kode9 remix was my favourite dubstep tune for a good 2 years at one point. D1 - Baboo is another personal fav.

harkat's right, that list totally favors more melodic tunes over bangers

where are the tunes like Radical, Kalawanji, Angel or Bablyon Fall? i see Horror show and some others on there but they're so low on the list.

on the subject of Joker Untitled_rsn is definitely among the best

Because it's my list, not yours. Admittedly I have much better taste in music than anybody else, but still, it's just that, my list. I'm not gonna change my list cos you think Babylon Fall or Kalawanji should be in it.

None of those tunes are low, dweeb, to get into the top 50 tunes of a genre that's coming on for 12 years old is amazing.

What's the definition of a banger? Cos I'd say these ones all fall into the category of bangers:

Burial - South London Boroughs
Joy Orbison - Hyph Mngo
Skream - Rutten
Digital Mystikz - Earth A Run Red
Goth Trad - Two Faced
Loefah - Mud
Radical Guru - Strong Dub
Tes La Rok - Uprise
Silkie - Slow Jam
Loefah - Horror Show
Benton - Skeptics

That's like, 22% of the list. I dunno what you mean by "melodic" either. Half the tunes that aren't in that list of bangers are in no way melodic. Can only assume by "banger" you mean tear out-y stuff? That's such a small portion of dubstep.

SMH need some sense up in here. Some of these tunes might sound good on a system or "go off on the floor" or whatever, don't mean they're the best.

It was decided by me, cos everybody else's taste is inferior. :cornlol: People might say otherwise, but they know deep down it's true.

^ yep.

my two biggest gripes with some of the stuff mentioned thus far:

LNB > Dread imo, and is my favorite Kahn tune.

And Mala tunes are over-rated just cause it's Mala and everyone loves his persona. I mean I love it to but I don't let it affect my taste in music. I'm talking about tunes like Lean Forward, Education, & Neverland. I'm not saying they're no good, but they aren't as incredible as people chat imo. They're a little bit lacking in personality/identity to me and don't really capture what dubstep is about, for me.

Misty Winter, I like a bit more. Has more "personality." But top 5 tunes ever? No fuckin way imo.

imo when it comes to mala, best tunes are Blue Notez, AWD, 2 Much Chat, Hunter. I also really like The Tunnel but that isn't really a classic Mala that ppl are always chatting.

Considering most people rate Mala as one of the best you really believe its because of his persona and not the music? Come on..

If he lacks 'personality/identity' and doesn't capture what dubstep is about, who does in your opinion?

Well it's a combination of his talent + his persona + his position in the scene that results in it. Like, he's an amazing producer to begin with, but all the other things about him put him over the top. I think if someone like Skream had a classic record label that has only put out 30 (awesome) releases over the past decade, had a better attitude, didn't abandon the scene, was still making dubstep, and said things like "I hate promoting my own music, but I started Deep Medi cause so many incredible producers were sending me so much amazing material and I wanted to share it with the world," then people would probably rate him like they do Mala.

Well the operative word in there is for me. My taste in dubstep is different from Garethom's taste in dubstep. I like some of those types of tunes, but a lot of those Appleblim, Peverelist, Pangaea, Burial, Darkstar tunes just don't do it for me. It's just not my taste. I'm not saying it's no good. It's just not my favorite. imo pre-outside the box skream (not exactly sure if OTB is the right place to draw the line but it's somewhere around there) is my favorite type of dubstep. skream, benga, coki, kahn/gorgon sound, goth trad, kromestar, cluekid. that said, i still like the stuff skream is doing now, just not as much as skreamizm vol. II ya know?

Also I'm not saying Mala doesn't have personality/identity in his music, just those tunes I mentioned. Like I said, AWD, Blue Notez, 2 Much Chat are all incredible tunes imo that I rate over tunes like Neverland, Lean Forward, Education, etc.
