One KRK RP5 much quieter than the other?

Post by Ataxia » Tue Jan 21, 2014 1:05 am

Easy,

I'll keep it short since I hate reading shit like this:

Bought pair of KRK RP5s 3 months ago, worked fine until yesterday when suddenly the left monitor became very quiet and distorted
Come home from work today and tried pissing about with them, listening to constant audio to see if anything fixed it
Tapped on the left monitor's woofer and it sounded like normal for about 30 seconds, then the problem started again.

The monitor powers fine, and I know it's not the cables (1/4 btw) or the audio interface (Komplete 6).

Is my monitor fucked? Will I have to send it back to the place I bought it?

Anyone else have problems similar to this with their monitors?

Curious how you know its not the cables or the interface? How did you test this? Another pair of speakers? That being the case Id say one of them is fucked.

Swapped the cables between the two monitors, right one still works with the left monitor's cables, swapped the outs so L monitor goes into R and vice versa, so I know it's not a problem with one of the outs on the interface,
Fiddled with the interface control panel, my computer's sound settings, balance settings, buffer times, sample sizes...

I've pretty much isolated the variable to be my left monitor. But thanks though. At least now I know it's probably just the monitor that's fucked and not my I/O too.

Yea. Unfortunately your logic is sound IMO. Maybe you have factory warranty left 3 months = about 90 days?
