ableton can only bounce wavs and aiffs. I've never had to convert that many files to mp3s for it to be worth downloading a converter.

The reason I wasn't sure if it was a proper 320 is because, well, for one I don't have full confidence in my knowledge of bit rates and file types all that shit, but also sometimes you can get files that say 320 but you know it's not actually a 320 (e.g., if you downloaded something "HQ" off of youtube it will say 320 but it's not actually a 320). I wasn't certain that the process of burning a wav onto a disk and then re-importing it doesn't alter the file in some way.

Can't you just import wavs into itunes?

And just get a converter for crimini sake.

naw dawg, like bring a wav into itunes and convert it to .mp3? Without having to go through the step of burning a cd and all that ball ache.

holy shit overthinking this way too hard dude, just get dbpoweramp or a free alternative. LAME codec, 320 set quality to extreme and click convert. start with a high quality wav. youtube is maxed out at 192 CBR, a little over half the bitrate of a 320 and their conversion is shit so it's even worse. hit me up if you want more explanation.

my biggest one is resampling, almost never do it. love to work in midi because i can customize everything, but often get lost in the proverbial trap of over customizing shit and getting crap results from lack of direction. i've been working to combat this lately by using bussing (something i also didn't use for some reason..) mainly because i was using battery for so long. now i'm using a drum rack because it's just so much easier..and the effects in battery 4 aren't as...user friendly. i'd rather just use the VST's i know instead of using them.

another one is returns and sends. not a clue what they do and i can't seem to find a solid tutorial on it..seems like one of those things that should be common sense but i'm just not getting it.

^Find the signal flow chart of an actual hardware mixer. This will give you a visual representation of where the signal can go. Basically a send is a way to "send" the identical signal (at variable gain, usually) to another channel for parallel or serial processing. The return is the channel that "returns" the sent signal to the master. At least in FL Studio the way the routing works you don't really see the send as its just a small dial on the interface.

I've been spending more time making sounds than making music. I often find it more fun to make weird shit in max/msp than writing a simple tune.

also, I've been offered to ghost produce before - but making big room EDM shit actually makes me physically furious, and it's worse than making no music at all. I turned them down.

My confession is I am finally making a conscious effort to employ all the good practices I preach all the time in each of my tunes and I'm forging my own way and having fun making some bass n beats.
