Shifty as in dodgy, or shifty as in he can move quickly?

Either way, that's ok, not really relevant, but that's ok.

He also has so far posted stuff I told him about and an album that's over thirty years old in a new music thread (unless it doesn't mean literally new, no offense Eric). But he still is more on point as he was joking about with it. Also her most recent album does slightly lay on through image side of it a little heavy
lol i just thought it meant new as a in stuff u havent heard before that u are currently listening to

Can be. The issue isn't him saying it's hipter music it's the whole "it's some girl with an acoustic guitar, low bit rates and tumblr" thing that Gareth was banging on about that makes me think he's put zero effort into looking into her as an artist before dismissing her. Especially with shit like saying that she only claims to listen to Black Sabbath to look cool or real or whatever which is such a ridiculous suggestion in itself. Also the sort of thing someone accuses someone of doing when they're simply looking for reasons to back up their uninformed hatred

I mean is this a lofi acoustic tumblr track Gareth?

Holy shit, I had no idea we were supposed to research artists/bands before forming an opinion on their music :o

Nah not at all but he said something that was way off and then when I pointed it out (complete with a suggestion for an album that didn't fit his description he gave of the music) and then a little info on what angle the music is more coming from he proceeded to say she might be claiming to be into Black Sabbath, Rudimentary Peni, Buzum and the like just to look like less of a hipster or something. I dunno, if he'd just said he didn't like it and then still didn't like it after checking the album I wouldn't care he just stuck so firmly to unfounded claims.

bloody hell wolf, you're like a character from a sketch show or something man.

I'm gonna break this down:
wolf89 wrote:I dunno, if he'd just said he didn't like it and then still didn't like it after checking the album
I did that. Not after checking the whole album, cos either I'm gonna have to listen to samples (not enough to form a full picture) or buy it (not gonna do that), but I did check out like, the 5 or 6 tunes agent posted and I said I didn't like them, agent asked why, so I said why.
wolf89 wrote:then a little info on what angle the music is more coming from he proceeded to say she might be claiming to be into Black Sabbath, Rudimentary Peni, Buzum and the like just to look like less of a hipster or something.
no mate, I said that anybody can say stuff like that to make them seem less fake, I didn't say that's what she was doing, just that it's an easy way to appear more "real", so it's not exactly gonna make me check out any more of her music any time soon. man, she could say her influences were Burial, Joy Division, Skywave and Outkast. I STILL wouldn't like those tunes, regardless of where they've "come from".

Wolf, I genuinely can't believe you don't see how funny this looks. Earlier today when you packed Yung Lean, did you listen to all his mixtapes, read interviews with him, learn about his background and his influences before saying he was awful? Probably not, and that's ok, you probs checked out a few tunes and made an educated decision there and then. Do you do the same for everybody else you write off as awful? You sit there for hours, listening to back catalogues before making your famous DSF posts?
wolf89 wrote:I wouldn't care he just stuck so firmly to unfounded claims.
I made a generalised comment about her being another singer-songwriter with an acoustic guitar making lo-fi. That's what it sounded like to me based on the tunes agent posted. That's all. Considering that most of those tunes were acoustic-y and lo-fi, that's not "way off" at all man. And some people like that sound, I've probably got some music that fits that vibe, but those particular tunes? Not doing it for me.

I like your posts on here man, you DO know a lot about music and you post a lot of interesting tunes, but you need to take it far, far less personally when someone doesn't like tunes you rate.

That's enough on this from me now, thread has been derailed enough.

I have spent fucking ages trying to figure out what angle Yung Lean is coming from and still don't get it beyond it seeming like "it's shit but it knows it's shit so it's not actually shit" regarding the rapping which is then over fairly nice beats.

The point here was that you were still making claims about her being some tumblr internet type hipster thing which isn't the case. Also the tracks Agent posted pretty much were all not on the album I was talking about which is more on a dirgey electric guitar vibe with more in common with doom metal in it's attitude than tumblr music or hipster acoustic stuff. She's done one lo-fi album, one band based album, one acoustic and one album that's full of synths, massive arrangments with string sections and full band pieces. So realistically only small amounts of it are lo fi or entirely acoutic based. Her newest album is the opposite of lo fi honestly. Then the whole "it's all about triangles and tumblr and hipsters" point you made doesn't remotely have anything to do with her. The Goth thing is laid on very heavy on the new album but she tours with metal bands rather than leans towards Grimes style internet fandom or which house esque pretentiousness. The gothyness I would attribute more towards 80s style stuff than that with her electronic based tracks off the new record.

But yeah we should stop derailing this thread.
