Don't give me all this henhouse bullshit. In this era, people do not wear dreads in homage to some bygone historical culltural tradition, tracing the steps of their white ancestors. In this era, the whole cult of dreads has been stolen and appropriated from Rasta man, as a fashion statement, with folks wishing to attain a shred of the "cool" physical appearance of authentic Dread. You cannot buy into a culture, it's like using Che Guevara's iconic image to promote your own cheap, shitty products. Invariably, white people with dreads look like dicks, because they do not have the correct hair type for it. There is also an unfortunate association - in this country anyway - with that whole Levellers/festival/dog stringer/cider/piss stench crusty/uncashed giro vibe, which is most distasteful.

You should really try to never breed, and if you do--make sure that it's in a country where they limit the number of kids you are allowed to have... China comes to mind.

Who in the fuck are you to question someone else's motive for their hairstyle? There are white rasta, and it's pretty fucking ignorant of you to spout that racist rhetoric... I'm sure most rastafari would want to slap the shit out of you for for making them all look stupid with your bigotry.

Also, by your logic there are no black males(heh, pun intended) who would be tracing their heritage either... so ONLY people from Jamaica can wear dreads? Plain ignorance. If I wear to grow my hair out and never brush or comb it, I would have dreads. OR, if I dreaded them manually, I would have dreads that looked good. I've seen some pretty sweet looking dreads on white people--and I don't question someone's personal reasons for wearing a white shirt over a red shirt... whatever they want to wear is fine with me--I'm not a fashion critic...

if they listen to shit music, on the other hands

If you honestly beleive that all black people with dreads have them as a hardened statement towards their roots/religion you are clearly mad chris. How roots is shotting crack, which i've known many a dread do. this is not the 70's.

a white mate of mine had dreads for a bit... but they started to reeeeeek after a couple months... each to their own really innit... as for tattoos, i only got a little one (sorry no pics atm) but i designed it myself, based on an ancient colombian design, so i know that no-one else in the world has it... all about originality. I'm designing next one at the mo...

I had dreads for 2 years ... my lil niece gave me head-lice @ christmas one year, I was infested within days .... not nice!! ... It was either bleaching my hair but that may of only get rid of 80% of em ... or have my dreads cut off ... As I am white my dreads proved difficult but with patience, my girlfriend was able to un-tangle a lot of them ... but many had to be cut off .... I was totally gutted and miserable for weeks.

I now have very short hair and I want dreads again.

My parents however were happy my niece had head-lice ...

Moral of the story .... stay by yourself @ xmas

I understand your drive to the arguement, it's like some Christian breh wearing a turban because it looks cool. It doesn't make sense. But to be honest, I think you're talking foolishness. Whether you perm, shave, straighten or dread your hair, it's not a statement of you undying faith to Haile Selassie, rather just that dreads look nice. This isn't the 1800's, you shouldn't have to display your religion or justify your beliefs because you want to live in a certain area or style your hair!!!

this is a great point, but i think that it needs to be said that rastafarianism was a response from jamaicans in jamaica feeling cut off from their african roots by the realities of slavery and colonization. dreads were a way that rasta's in jamaica could identify each other, as well as represent a spiritual connection with the lost tribe of judah and ethiopia. for devoted rasta's, it's a lot heavier than just a hairstyle.

No way.. i always thought about getting this done, inspired back in the day by Fear Factory... Did you get the idea there Pete?

Anyway decided against it and considered getting it on my wrist, then saw someone with it there and thought fuck it... still like the design but i'll keep looking for something i ain't seen before..

So no tats yet, anyone got any decent original designs, put em up..

The whole roots thing is to deep for most people to understand. I mean the real Jamacians (Born and Raised) don't like when non-Jamacians, front like they are the real Rastafarians. Most people with dreads nowadays dont know the purpose but get them for a fashion statement or fit the image, while a select few represent their culture by wearing them. And tattoos are cool if they have meaning to the person, like a specific date or a symbol of something important to the wearer.

To Doomstep, Rank as in nasty, or is it something else
