You missed buds, but not mine. I'm at the westernmost edge of the world, my saturday is late. And even then, I'm on the westernmost edge of the local saturday...

But I'll be uploading and aggregating songs within a couple of hours.

Okay, I know I listened to Bud's track for this week, but I swear it is not in the thread... this crack has got me all mixed up.

Good week. Great to see a new (default)user, and a surprise visit from the Jade Rabbit.

Fahk! It was early. I went back twice looking for it. Also doesn't help that sc player's are invisible in this ffx for some god damn reason that I just can't figure out after many many google attempts spread over months! FUCK!

Love playing tracks in people's sigs.

Okay, lemme get you in the TUNA!

@mks: seconding nowaysj comments about the snare. also, could be just me, but i feel the kick could be a bit more present in the mix, like it sounds overpowered by the sub (listening on headphones tho). actually i'd suggest using a different kick altogether. personal taste but i think the acid bassline should go crazier as the track progress, this said i'm not sure how to achieve that, guess i should probably try to make an acid techno-ish track someday...

@Budspencer: at first i was like :s but by the end of it i found myself enjoying it more than i probably should... the stabs dropping at 2,50 are just the right amount of cheesy in my book. great progression and arrangement, mixdown sounds on point, however i think the 808 rimshots and cowbells could be a tad louder. at times it seems to me the vocals are quite offbeat tho? not sure if its voluntary but its really phasing me out.

@nowaysj: your track has this sort of unpredictable madness i never manage to attain. great use of panning, though i'm not sure about the hard panned high hats... i reckon the snare could use some more reverb, not necessarily on every hits, but a longer tail every once in a while would help make the beat more interesting i guess?

thanks for the feedback dfaultuzr haha you are right i just took the acapella as it is and threw it over the track at those parts i might need to go back and address those problems

@jizzman those pannig sounds destroy my head lol in a good way. you have this indi video game sound vibe
bassline is really mellow. maybe one element on top would complete it ? like a top melody or some of the bassnotes go up one octave. besides that the whole vibe is on point love the mini sounds

@dfaultuzr crackles :U: surprisingly similar imo to jizzmans could be on the same compilation :3
love all the send effects you used like all those dub delays and long reverbs. the vibe sits well dig the dark moody bassline. hm maybe the sub a tad harder ? nice stereofield. would love to hear you taking it to another "level" (with like vocals or a really dark big pad ) after the drop at 1 12. it never really hits a real highpoint for me personally that would be my only concern

@fragments the strings def play a nice melody man ♥ some sounds remind me of ghosts of breslau
its a wierd song man haha but i like it its more like a look in your head. overall too long for me to keep interest though. agree with nowayjayz you could raise the volume easily even without limiting it you have your ideas down jsut compress them a bit into sth thats still artistic but on the other hand easy to listen too( which is of course just my opinion)

@mks
not sure about the metal start :?
developes into sth really nice when those old school pads come in at around 1 10 wouldnt drop them so soon they make it really full and nice
could see them maybe just go lowpass abit and come back for this high clicky melody
hm and maybe try chopping the acid loop at the last third to a dif rhythm

@yeah really dark beginning ahah love the drop not sure about the high stabs could see it work without them really or with a moving filter on them like bandpass so its not that high :3 but besides that
really nice groove enough development to keep it going. again i could see some more occasional breaks in the main loop like stop drum roll back to the loop

@IbizaTron: Pure <3 Solid choona. There is a side me that can get down to this kinda stuff all night long. That big lead is lush. Sounding good. Maybe the slightest more presence on the kick? That might be a monitoring thing for me actually. Not much to say except I would totally spin this tune in a mix.

Jizz N VerB N a Tree: I like how the weird sample pitching makes this kinda a tonal--its walking a good line. A few edits or change ups would be nice I think. That swirly thing that comes in is cool, but I need a bit more as listener. Uber impressed with the texture. Feels trip hop ish while doing a lot of other interesting things. That super panned, super wide bell sounds a little piercing to me, but I like it.

Uzer: Dusty groove man. I feel like I want a little more punch on something. Everything is too understated? The groove is tits and the vibes are there. I just want something to push me a little and up the energy for a moment.

More to come...

Really dug this. Wouldn't change anything apart from some mastering.

It is amazing, right, but I think it could be pushed in certain areas. And yes, pushed into the warm embrace of a limiter. :)

Side note: I don't think of my limiter as the BIG BAD OLD LOUDNESS WAR DESTROYER.

I think of it like hitting tape fairly hard. Hitting tape hard, is OOOOHHHH DREAMMY, SUCH ANALOG WARMTH. But hitting your limiter is BOOO! YOU'RE DESTROYING MUSIC YOU ARE THE REASON BEHIND THE LOUDNESS WAR.

Truth is the first victim of war.

you know what, I've never really looked into limiting on tracks, i've always assumed it only kills dynamics. tape limiting could be an enhancer you say? didnt even know there was such a thing, im a real technical n00b with most things ahah

feedbacks:

@bud: i second noways, screwed version of that would be mad! tbh i cant really think of much in terms of improvements, everythings sitting nicely atm. so yeh get a screwed up flipside to this now mane

@dfault: thats a great groove you got going there. what i'd suggest is more movement, get the beat flying off to the next dimension m8. atm its a bit... still. some bounciness or any sort of syncopated rhythm combined with the groove you already have would really get this shining

@fragments: i'd say the actual sound of the kick and snare is a bit weak atm, in fact the weakness is because it seems a bit too jarring, for lack of a better word. the atmosphere is so good though, especially the sound that comes in round 1:20 is perrfect

@mks: this is fun as fuck, i love it. dont really have any suggestions for improvement tbh. maybe a random sample of stewart lee wouldnt go amiss

@noways: ahh that snare mane, so good. it feels like im playing a really twisted version of crash bandicoot right now, no idea why. again, dont have much of a clue as to how you could improve cos its already pretty much there imo. maybe some samples from crash bandicoot heheh, something to fill up the atmosphere a bit more. also maybe bring in that final full bassline in as a more important element of the track, the tie-in element if you will

@LTUK: faarkk me, that is mad my friend, would love a copy if you're giving it out. maybe get the drums a bit phatter, especially the snare could be sick if it starts cutting through that amazing sample a bit more, giving the whole thing a more defined groove. not some extreme sidechain though, just a subtle thing

Any compression/limiting is distortion. It is just a matter of your aesthetic taste in that distortion. Yeah, tape is not digital, so you can send a hot signal to it. Over 0db the signal starts to saturate and break up. It was an aesthetic decision about how far to go into the red. The noise floor in analog was relatively high, but the ceiling is soft. Now in digital, the noise floor is way way down there, but the ceiling is hard. Though, I guess a little soft depending on the quality of your converters, again, aesthetics.

That snare that you said you like, and I like too, real nice sound to it - and honestly, I think that is almost PURE sample (out of maschine) no compression or eq, but I did limit it on the master, that snare was pulling about 5db of gain reduction :) so that is 5db into the red. The quality of the limiter determines how for you can push the sound. Pulling 5 db's like that is really really far. There is distortion in there, overall dynamics are lost, but I think it is propaganda that music needs to have 60db of dynamic range. It is aesthetics! You can prefer how much dynamic range you want. I mean that is a VERY large part of mixing and mastering - just figuring out overall how much pressure the song has, and the relationship between the loud and quiet elements.
