Everyone's berating neckbeards, My Little Pony, atheism even and fedoras, and they keep wearing them despite opposition. That takes quite a few more guts than being so obsessively insecure about your demeanor on a message board where your ego is reliant on calling other people 'fedoras' and carefully monitoring your own behavior to not be called one. In part because of that, I respect some fat, neckbearded, atheist, fedora wearing brony more than the people that make fun of them. Whereas the hordes of internet dwellers that obsessively make fun of them or point out how 'fedora' someone else is, do it because they're just too afraid of people thinking they're anything like them. In other words, they care a whole lot more about what people think of them than bronies do.

Well yeah that is true but it doesn't stop the militant atheism and intelligence front some of these people project from being an image thing probably based upon other insecurities. Also I don't give a fuck what people think of me online so it doesn't really follow through that thinking some of these people are lame as fuck is me trying to project an image.
It is true that MLP fans must surely not give a fuck though.

Re: The Fedora Chronicles
Good point. Only Brony I've ever met in real life was a dude with pretty severe asperger's who joined a billion different societies at uni including the ale and cider society. Used to turn up and get drunk off one pint and brokenly talk about MLP to anyone he met before usually falling asleep somewhere or having to go home.

Re: The Fedora Chronicles
I think you both make valid points. In terms of the atheism thing, I like to make the distinction where the reasons for the outward displays of atheism are concerned because I don't agree with any and all criticisms of religion being labelled as 'fedora' and ridiculed in that respect. I think criticism of religion is important in the context of any discourse aimed at better understanding the universe, preventing harmful consequences of beliefs in question (e.g. childhood indoctrination), shaping/re-evaluating/improving social policy, relieving suffering caused by rampant superstition etc. This doesn't just go for religious beliefs but any belief system or claim made about the world. The important thing though is that, if anything is to be criticised or even subjected to ridicule here, it is the belief not the person. The displays of atheism shown by 'fedoras' in this thread (I think I have yet to see an exception.. If there are I haven't been paying close enough attention) are not only motivated purely by what I can only explain as the need to demonstrate intellectual superiority over others for the purposes of social desirability, but they are aimed at the religious person in such a way that aims to depict them as fundamentally inferior "sheeple". I think the phrase "enlightened by my own intelligence" largely sums up what I have a problem with. While I can and do see the funny side, it does disgust me when people talk like this. Another key distinction I've picked up on is the conflation of beliefs and intelligence or, basically, these guys seem to think 'unjustified/strange belief = stupid person i'm vastly superior to'. Some of the most intelligent people can and do hold a variety of weird beliefs for a variety of reasons that have little to do with intelligence. I guess I could sum up by saying the nature of "fedora" displays of atheism appear to be completely disingenuous and well deserving of the constant cringing I do in response to they shit they come out with.Genevieve wrote:Yet secure enough that they don't need other people's approval to carry themselves however they want. i agree with u, ridiculing religion as an idea is legit, religion is a fucking stupid idea and a massive hindrance to humanity in a lot of ways imo (in b4 oh but charity derp derp). ridiculing people personally to belittle them and big up your own ego is always harsh

Yeah, pretty sure I saw agent use some meme face in a thread earlier, he's changing fast.
just stumbled across this kid from my year at school on facebook, probs mentioned him in here before, thought I'd scope his page, see how his horrible ass life is going. shockingly, did notice he had a girlfriend now, looked at her page, she's absolute rats, every post is about cosplay, and she appears to be actually going out with her "boyfriend"'s brother, creasing, every photo of her is with his brother, going on picnics and that alone. some people have such a crap life

Re: The Fedora Chronicles
what even is cosplay, not even like a fancy dress party, looks like they just dress up and not do anything, there's even something called "birmingham cosplay guild", why the fuck do they need a guild

should point out that guy in the middle with the blue hair and headphones is apparently known as "wardog". i was creasing at that pic until i saw the kid in the phantom of the opera mask, now it's proper put me on a downer

As far as I can tell, cosplay is just a jumped up term for fancy dress.wolf89 wrote:Assumed that it was just going to conventions in fancy dress.
Re: The Fedora Chronicles
But from the looks of these photos, they don't do anything. Like just dress up, take a few photos, and stand around looking awkward. fair play if that's what they like. anyway, i'm in a better mood now, I was grimmed out my research into their lives, but I've sene some photos that have cheered me up again.

actually had me laughing out loud

cos play is for anime / manga / comic nerds to dress up like their favourite characters and meet up n talk about anime. its basically just an elitist way of saying fancy dress.
R-One-Oh-Seven would make an awesome 'cosplay' tho cos he is just cardboard boxes and a leotard
