Silver gives me chills whenever them first Amen's kick in, it's pretty out there for jungle, massively ahead of its time for 1995 (I can see Squarepusher being well influenced by this record).
:!: :!:

That's an album and a half right there. I'd recommend it to anybody, but I wasn't sure if it were good "introduction" material. It's quite a bit to take in all at once.

Don't see any bother with the above (feelin the minimal stuff at the moment), but trance is straight-up gash (not even in a good way). Ended up at some shitey night like this a few months back and just ended up taking the piss for two hours solid. Thought it'd be nice to have a podium and dress up like showjumpers to get that gallop down. Started doing spaz-breakdancing downstairs (spinning myself round with my feet - skills to pay the bills y'all).

For some reason people thought I wasn't givin it the respect it's due. I personally thought I gave it more than it deserved. And far too much of this bullshit in Brighton. Get some shampoo, get a comb, stop living off your parents and stop this sick evil.

Anger out, love in (is this the right way round?)
Hmm....

Sorry mate, all in jest. Rantings good for the spirit to a degree.

This is what happens when they go over the six page mark.

Ok guys, first off thanks for all the recommendations. :!:
Just had a wicked afternoon trying to listen to them all...

Image

I'll admit it... Roni Size has always bored the piss out of me,
but this album's actually alright. Is it not just liquid D&B?

Image

Photek's album is cold and precise, but interesting.
I prefer the jazzy atmospheric parts to the beats themselves.

Image

Goldie has a good mix of lush tracks and trippier ones.
Glad I heard this... it actually makes my wishlist.

_________________________________________________________

Then I throughly went through the comps:

Shy FX/Various - Jungle Rewind

Mickey Finn/Various - Jungle Drum & Bass Anthems

Phantasy/Various - Absolute Old Skool Classics

Fierce/Various - Acolyte: From Jungle To Drum & Bass

VARIOUS - V Forever Baby!

VARIOUS - Ragga Jungle Anthems Vols 1 / 2

VARIOUS - King of The Jungle 1 / 2 / 3

VARIOUS - Law of The Jungle

Grooverider - The Prototype Years

_________________________________________________________

And my conclusions:

1) It seems to me like jungle has a "tinny" sound compared to modern D&B.
Is this fair, or is it my speaker setup? Not sure I'm feeling it in that respect.

2) I can't escape my love for ragga. However open-minded I am when listening, it's the
vocal tracks that get a rewind (and dancehall toasting > roots singing, I'm afraid).

Examples: Shy FX - Bambaata, Tribe Of Issachar feat Top Cat - His Imperial Majesty

Next stop... those mix sessions! :P

Jungle shouldn't be tinny.. if anything the bass should be deeper than modern DnB which seems to be going through some kind of terrible mid-range thing at the moment.

Bloody impossible to get hold of the Congo Natty labels CD's (I know, I've been hunting them for years and only got one) but that label is pure genious.

The US is going through a massive ragga jungle revival at the moment. Check out labels like N20, Chopstick Dubplate, Big Cat, Rewind.

I would go with

1. the Jungle Warfare album by Darren Jay and Mickey Finn <--- one of the best mix albums ever IMO, I still play this.

2. Breakbeat Science: Exercise.01 --- Dj Dara this mix is really good.

3. and I like Reid Speed's "Resonance" has a good mix of all kinds of drum and bass, and some really good tunes in there.
