What one of our brilliant game system programmers did is to make the game slowly degrade after some time playing it. After 2 levels, weird things would start happening and the game would slowly be rendered unplayable.

I'm not a programmer, so I don't know exactly. I do know that it's really down and dirty, though. Some clever filing thingy wotsit-bobs.

I don't really know where I stand with p2p downloading. It opened me up to so much music as a youngster, discovered so many different things thru p2p but i feel a bit dirty saying it now... lots of shit got deleted that i didn't like, but when i got a little older and got a job, had some money, i started buying all the stuff i got into thru p2p + more...

Personally I think it has a place, but maybe it's just stealing and I'm just greedy but i wouldn't of found half the music i really dig now if it wasn't for the old p2p

i don't see much of a difference between people using P2P
and people selling records with uncleared samples ,
especially the tunes which are ripping whole accapellas.

when you think about it whats the bigger crime ?

and i bet the "unknown artists" downloaded the acapellas to make
their remixes of burning / sensi dub / i dont give a dub etc etc

surely there's a difference between financial prospects and musical prospects?

i know this is the usual attitude of someone with no musical talent and/or prospects, but why is it so important to make money from your music?

Surely money is a catalyst into production right?

please the people who are buying the records or going to see them perform. if thats what you mean ............

check out http://www.mediadefender-defenders.com they managed to leak 9months worth of internal email of an antip2p organisation.

It's a huge blow to the antip2p movement. The source code to their trackers and sneaky programs were released along with IP addresses and fake emule server addresses.

Even a phone call to the New York District Attorney was recorded, the antip2p group was helping the FBI to track down NY paedo/pedo's which I promote but they were hosting and rating CP, which as an organisation is a bit strange. Shouldn't the FBI be doing that? Check the link.

a couple people mentioned the need to diversify and make money out of tings other than CD/vinyl/download sales. which is no doubt the only way forward. But what if u dont ever play live or dj? what other options r open to make enuf to live?

from the little ive read about burial I get the impression he aint too bothered about making a living out of what he's doing anyway, just happy doing his thing and staying cult. But it seems fucked up that one of (perhaps THE) most important artist in this scene will make less money than the majority of others (even many less known and less talented) purely cos they play out and s/he doesn't. get me?

of course, if he goes in to scoring for film like photek or something, as Ms Hobbes would have him do, then he'll rake it in. but as much as i feelin his stuff i aint convinced he's that kind of artist. photek is a different thing altogether: technical as hell, a trained musician. burial is anti all that shit (at the moment) and while his stuff is fresh, he aint exactly some genius composer, and there are other factors: right place right time, the hype and mystique being anonymous creates...

...but i'm no doubt opening an OT can of worms here so I'll leave it...

but anyway, my question is...aside from flogging merchandise at gigs, anyone got any clever ideas how to keep afloat? especially for those that dont play live

producers and DJ's get paid by playing gigs... bands get paid by playing gigs... that is where the money is.

You think your couple hundred pounds that you made off selling your tunes to the label is the real money? You have to go out and play gigs and sell merchandise. I don't know of a single musician who makes their living in the studio--if you want to make the money, you have got to garner bookings.
