LunchPaddle, hi mate. Usually we give feedback to at least 3 people per tune that we post from the most recent pages of the thread before getting feedback on your own tunes.

I can't listen to yours right now as at work but I like the deep house stuff so will take a listen when I get a chance!

mtl6 I wasn't able to listen to the one you posted but I like the chill one in your sig, the progression of melodies is really nice and the beat goes well with the laid out atmosphere.

Wow sick, man. the rhythm of the bass gives the tune wicked swing and the filtered growls are ill.
It's not 140, but I'd love some feedback, felt the break could have been filtered a bit better, appreciate any feedback

-Trax- : Add some risers to give more of a build up effect before the drop, cut all or most of the audio just before the drop. Bring out the snare and the melody, maybe lower the kick a little. Sounds good so far.

F8Fabe: sounds really cool so far, you got your intrtho and A section, now make a B section maybe more melodic if you like that, a C section and a breakdown. Sounds really good so far.

Ascian : Sounds really sick.. Maybe add some hats and maybe a lead synth to blend with that grimey bass.

Little something I'm working on for a remix comp. Any advice or suggestions much appreciated.

@lunchpaddle- that track sundays isn't really my thing, but I thought the mixdown and the track was real good. The first half seemed to be lacking something though, maybe turn up that main synth pad a bit for the first half of the tune. But all in all it's dope man.

@trax- Nice one man, I'm diggin it. I haven't been listening to 140 stuff lately but I think I'm gonna have to today after listening to this. All I could say is maybe switch the drums up, add some fills etc. Also I could definitely hear some heavily reverbed and delayed sax oneshots over that shit.

@Infestedpasta- I like the idea, but the snare in the beginning is a little too loud and dry IMO maybe add some reverb and bring it down a tad. Also I'm not really digging the shifting panning, it's a little too much IMO but keep at it and I think it'll turn out pretty good.

I started working on a track a couple hours ago and I'm taking a break, then I'm gonna give it a quick little mixdown and rough master. I'll put it up after that and see what you guys think. I just figured I'd get the feedback bit out of the way. Good tunes though guys.

The mixdown is really rough, but I just wanted to get it up and get some feedback. I'm really into that LA beatscene sound like flylo, nosaj, tokimonsta, baths etc. I'm thinking some parts need a little less i.e. addition by subtraction and maybe switch up the drums to be a little more intense at some part or something idk w/e lemme know what you think. :Q:

@zosomagik: Drum production is nice, but maybe a little conservative. The main snare could maybe benefit from some velocity automation. pretty nice balance of elements, now that you have a solid pallet you can start fleshing out the song tonally and melodically.

@infestedpasta: Try automating the rate and amount a bit on the vocal auto pan effect, it seems like it would be more effective if there were sections where it didn't have panning going on. Bass high end sounds pretty great. The snare in the intro sounds a bit exposed and just sounds a little too static. The arrangement is pretty good too, nothing ever feels like its really going on for too long. there also seems to be a bit of frequency clashing in between the kick and bass

@Trax: I like the mix aesthetic, not too clean, kinda jungliistic. Seems like more could be done with the melody, that part might get a little too loopy. some bass variations also might be nice, but the minimalist vibe kinda works too, it might be hard to find the right balance between too much change and not enough

My track is pretty raw, haven't even multi tracked the parts out of reaktor yet, this is just a quick live jam on the mixer. also sound cloud murders high end and the hats could maybe use some lowpass filtering to compensate for that. All generative sequencing from my homebuilt sequencing tools, so when I multitrack the parts out, it will be a different performance from the same generators.

Can't figure out how to fix this intro?

Post by CDPP » Tue Mar 11, 2014 9:25 am

Apparently this topic exists huh

@zosomagik
Like your track, it's chill. Just think soloing the cello in the middle seemed kinda weird and the sidechained reverse crash seem kinda awkward too (almost like it was the wrong bpm). Try keeping the cello playing throughout that breakdown with a long volume automation, maybe that might help connect the parts together

@infectedpasta
Like where this is heading, though that bass at 1:05 just sounds plain awful. (Assuming this was made in Massive) You might wanna tweak your phase and wt postiion a bit more, since that's whats causing your bass to sound uneven as your change notes. Mixdown sounds kinda dry, could use some reverb especially on the vocals + hat; not a fan of the hat sample too I'd choose something brighter.
Really like the pitched down vocals you added at the end, and the effects going on too, that's great.
Yeah the part when you solo the vocals that definitely needs reverb; also maybe a buildup to it wouldn't hurt (string cluster sample, upsweep or some filter change, reverse tail sample?)

But yeah like where this is going though, some interesting ideas inside.

@knobgoblin sorry I have no idea how to feedback this; don't normally listen to this kind of music. Don't take it the wrong way though, your mixdown is fine its just this kind of stuff seems disorienting imo

So I took a listen to a month-old WIP again and boy does everything sound really off
It's like the intro and drop don't even fit together and I've got no idea how to join them
Any ideas guys? :/

This probably isn't what you're looking for, but I think that track would be better off without the 'filth'. You've actually got a sick vocal and chord progression there and I think they would be better complemented by a more melodically focused track with some more organic sounds, like playing the bass on a bass guitar, piano arpeggios and a more upbeat drum pattern.
If you would like to keep that filth vibe, I'd go for making it more dancey from the start. Keep the chords, perhaps layer them with a synth pad/chord layer. Start out with more chops and drums at the intro.
Also, mix it so that the bassline with the filth are more prominent.
That's my opinion though.

Both of those tracks are pretty solid imo, I personally would turn the sub up a little bit on the second. And perhaps layer an 808 bass drum/low sine wave with a pitchbent envelope for a more prominent pulse, the bass drum is a little thin imo.
Bass drum on the first definitely needs more weight, the 808/sine trick I suggested should do it, if not, just turn it up tbh. Maybe a little sidechaining on the pad too.

I'd keep the bassline going there, where you stop it mid way. Perhaps change it at that point, use a reese bass (two detuned saw and/or square oscillators with a lowpass filter) or something with some automation to morph it as it goes along.
I'd also layer some chords on that, nice and loud following the same melody as the bleepy sound you have from the start. But sustained, like a pad, vary it if this idea catches your interest.

@knobgoblin : nice name btw :lol: not usually my thing, but that tune is preeeetttty crazy (in a good way) i'm loving that off beat shit dude. that white noise burst is a little loud IMO but I like the tune a lot

@cdpp : Makes me want to play tetris, I like the idea and those sound effects, the drop is a little muddy to me. Clean it up a little, make a break section and it'll be dope man.

@lunchpaddle : that real enemy track is dope man. I"d probably bring up the clap a little and maybe add some background glitchy shit, that shit had my head bobbin though

Didn't mix this down really at all, other than what I was referencing on (really shitty monitors) I need to bring the drums down and some other stuff and just gain stage it better. But what do you guys think?

@zosomagik
Really dig the hip hop vibe, maybe you can lower your kick a bit, but imo just a bit.

@Jesslem
I really love the intro atmos, maybe you can eq a bit the delayed sound around 2k5 /4k i think that there is a destroying frequency haha

@CDPP
Maybe it's just on you ear, i've seen drops wich matched really lesser with the intro than your track !
As Zoso said, maybe a bit muddy , and i think you can lower you basses lvl a bit too !

Okay guys, this is my first track, still a WIP ( nos master ) of course, i'd love having some feedback !
Cheers !

I dont have a WIP to post but I just checked out the latest tunes and wanted to share my thoughts:

Zosomajik: I really like the percussion and hte atmospheric elements, I feel like the bassline could use some more movement insteas of being stabs, some rhythmic filter sweeps could really bring it all together

CDPP: I think you should use the melody hook you have playing at the verse for your intro. Because yes it is a bit Frankenstein-ish at this point, everything is just stuck together. A lot of good sounds though, you def have the palette to work with here

Knobgoblin: I like the idea, some really clean interesting sounds. I feel like its too long 10 minutes, unless you are going for a real IDM type track then in that case nevermind. Also, I feel like there is a layer of the snare that sounds like colored noise and it really clashes with the smoothness of everything else, I think a more organic texture for your snare would really help tie it to the rest of the track

zosomaik: I don't know what kind of music this is. I like
the vibe but it can use some variation and maybe a lead.
Vocals here would be ideal. That perc with a lot of reverb
on it sounds pretty good.

sunnyboy: welcome to the boards and nice name sunnyboy :)
I like your growls very metallic-ish sounding and pretty
good timbre. Although all sounds sound as if they are
being processed by the same fx chain. Very it a little
maybe? For me the growls lack a little bit of an attack
and seems to be a little bit back(as in back in the mix)
instead of being upfront. I think maybe this is happening
because of the processing process or maybe you did that on
purpose. Mixing a little bit of the dry sound with
processed one might bring the growls a little bit to the
front if you do want to do that.

CDPP: Angrybirds? sounds similar very similar and reminds
me of that zomboy song which had angrybirds theme in it. I
say good job it made me smile. Very comical and kiddish
(as in for attracting kids and not childish) and good
energy. It kind of feels a little lost/boring at the part from
00:34 - 00:40. As for your worry that the intro/verse and
drop don't fit together I don't feel that way and I think
the whole song glue together nicely and is musically
pretty good too (not too complex but good). Excellent job
I actually feel like making that kind of music :)

here's my tune. I haven't done the final mix down but
everything seems to be in place I think. Need some solid
feedback on the drop and the growls but don't forget the
rest of the song.

Been a while since I visited this thread.

@Sunnyboy - I would probably add some more hats or percussive instruments to your drums to give the track more shuffle

@zosomagik - Love the drums on your hip hop tune, and I must say the part where the synth came in was surprising a bit. Expected something more chilled out judging by the intro. But it's not a drawback, just mentioning it. Did you sample the drums yourself?

@HimanshuVikal
Not my type of stuff, but I like the intro. The drop is alright but I think the growling bass is a bit too loud. It overpowers the whole mix imo, I'd turn it down so the other synths have a chance too ;) Also I'm not hearing any hats? If they're there, then definitely too quiet imo.

I will probably add something here in the upcoming days, kind of stuck with my second tune...
A question though, can I add a track to soundcloud and change the privacy settings so you guys can see it (by having the link) but not publishing it as a public track?

yeah, they're all ripped from vinyl hirszu. the kick has a hat layered over it and with the other hi hats I used it gave it a nice swing. Also I tamed that synth bass and did some crazy modulation shit to it. I'm taking a break and doing the final mixdown sometime today and ill put it up. P.s. you can set your track to private on soundcloud and I think if you click share, it will give you the "super secret" link to post where you want to share it. But you can't use the url of the track itself, because we won't be able to see it then!
