Any Good Record Labels? Label chat= Positive comments only

Post by cellmusic » Mon Mar 03, 2014 9:21 pm

Seems like alot of artists aren't getting paid for their tracks by the major record labels these days, and these businesses are making alot of real money from other people's efforts. It's not fair or legal.

But people are afraid to speak about how the top labels today are feeding on us artists for fear of themselves being attacked by fans and/or censored. I myself trusted the top label :u: Took me seven years of trying to make a worthy track just for it to get ripped off.

My point. Surely every honest label out there would want everyone to know that they treat artists fairly and that they actually pay them for their work?

So can someone tell me something good about one of the big labels? Im told that this forum does not tolerate negative comments towards a label in case they decide to sue the forum. So positive comments only please or thread gets locked again.

Would be original to hear from other artists that have something positive to say about a big label for a change #justsayin

Like most people would be, I was under the mistaken impression that I could trust the label because of their status. But you are absolutely right, this is simply not so, and really peeps need to know this still goes on today.

It would be brilliant to hear about any good labels that wouldn't do that to their artists? (They are their bread-and-butter after all...)

Sure, I already have done in a different post and on my soundcloud.com/cellsmusic

Hopefully this thread is for all good Record Labels recommended by producers. And I'd love to hear which 'Big' label peeps think is really worth sending their Dubstep and similar tracks we've been making to?

Feedback from artists happy with their record deal would be ideal!

lmfao nice try marketing yourself. If you were signed to a label you wouldn't need to post this shit trying to get soundcloud views.

I am not saying there aren't plenty of shady labels out there...

...but it also important to realize that the game has changed in the way people make their money.. and from releases is REALLY not a big part of it for most ANYBODY anymore.

I used to get advances from labels - but the scene was changing quick, so the deal I had with previous albums was no longer valid for other releases. So yes... on paper, I could complain that I didn't make what I should have made on some records compared to other records ON THE SAME LABEL... but the deal changed. I knew it and I went along with it...

...so if people have been contractually promised a certain financial figure, in writing and signed... then sure, there is a legit complaint. But I do see a lot of people complaining about getting signed doesn't = big financial success anymore.. well, no surprise - cos everyone is in the same boat. The fact that getting 'signed' doesn't equal huge money doesn't mean the label is shady. It just means people don't pay for music like they used to. Simple as.

I had my track signed in 2009 to a top label. I wasn't just given a rough deal, I've never been paid a penny- without any explaination given to me, just broken promises.

Now I'd just like to know which label is good to send my new tracks to?

Is it common to not get paid anything at all by a label for your music these days? My friend who is a fairly big DnB DJ and Producer said he has never been paid for any of his tracks either but I didn't believe him.

If you have a signed contract - take them to court. Simple as.

If you want to know more about these wretched labels :) As I said, it's on my other post on this forum.

I dont want this thread to get locked for mentioning names like my posts earlier today. I've been Pmd by the Moderator not to get dubstepforum.com into trouble. And if I say who the label is again, Dubstepforum.com are worried they could get sued if I use their site to accuse the label in an open discussion. They are responsible for everything posted apparently.

My lawyer says my track still belongs to me as I never signed anything and my name is printed on the label. I could re-release it with another label or do anything I like with it.

I've got alot more tracks now and I'd like to know where to send them too. Or do I just add them to beatport... thing is.. I've never been interested in promoting myself or licking bum. I just like making music.

TBH - and not to recommend signing with a major just for this purpose, even if that's ever been an option for you - if you had, say, Sony's legal muscle on your side it wouldn't take long for a smaller label to buckle under a suit. Like, suit mob style.

We went with what everyone thought was the best, they still do. A Record Label is in a position of trust right from the get-go, seems like basically they've got all the power and they know it. That's why I'd love to know which labels peeps know are good to deal with based on experience?
