There is a reason to watch it, yes, to see the messaging. The propaganda will tell you what the idiots around you are going to start believing. But to watch it as an organic source of information, that is jokes dude, you really should know better.

http://www.counterpunch.org/2014/03/03/ ... ublethink/
George Orwell wrote that doublethink was:

To know and not to know, to be conscious of complete truthfulness while telling carefully constructed lies, to hold simultaneously two opinions which cancelled out, knowing them to be contradictory and believing in both of them, to use logic against logic, to repudiate morality while laying claim to it, to believe that democracy was impossible and that the Party was the guardian of democracy, to forget, whatever it was necessary to forget, then to draw it back into memory again at the moment when it was needed, and then promptly to forget it again, and above all, to apply the same process to the process…

I also watch sunday morning shows which is afai can tell universally considered the best tv news source in america. Also Bill Maher, for what it's worth. There is really no better source that I see unless I'm gonna scour dark corners of the internet and read obscure documents on wikileaks to try to piece together what is in all likelihood still a very blurry image of what's really going on. And you still haven't offered your preferred sources.

But really.... trying to figure out 'the truth' would be a full time job. And I have no inherent interest in what's 'really going on,' if you think about it. It's much more valuable for me to know what you call 'the propaganda idiots around me are believing,' or what I call 'usually correct and well-intentioned news.' I don't think I have the ability to actually change anything, so why waste my time? If we're heading towards a complete Brave New World scenario, as you seem to believe, then I'm just riding along and trying to live the best life I can in the time that I have. I'll leave the world saving to the Glenn Greenwalds and the alwaysj's of the world. ;-)

As I said, there is a strong entertainment factor too. Lol who the fuck watches Hannity as an 'organic source of information'? :corntard:

My source, and the best source of news of the remote:

Hardly dark corners. American corporate news (ie what you see on tv) ratings have been falling because fewer and fewer people are dumb enough to rely on those sources of information. It is at this time that you see a tightening grasp on the internet and its content by the same corporations that used to maintain control over the narrative through televised news.

Heading to a Brave New World? :a: You don't know where you are.

But I'd start here:
dubunked wrote:I don't think I have the ability to actually change anything, so why waste my time?
I understand you're young, you're studying, you want to party, make beats, bathe your brain in drugs, fuck like a wild stallion, I get all that (I left the world for a few years in college, didn't know wtf was going on, this chick Ranka was trying ride the bologna, and I was like why do you have 14 people living in your apartment). But don't think for a second that you are powerless to shape the world, or that you will get any kind of (meaningful) truth from the television.

Soon we will be communicating solely in conventional videographic idioms. Phonetic communication will be seen as less expressive than discrete motion pictures. We will essentially return to pictographic languages.

Billy Bragg wrote good words yesterday:
Billy Bragg wrote:"I'm embarrassed by the excuses that the Stop the War website is making for Vladmir Putin. Apparently it's America's fault that he has invaded Crimea. And the EU's fault too. And our government's. And Syria. And the Ukranians who sided with Hitler in the 1940s. Oh and NATO too of course.

WTF?? We vociferously opposed Putin over his treatment of Pussy Riot. We called him out over his prejudice against the Russian LGBT community. Now he's sending troops into the Crimea we're looking the other way?"
I've no idea what we're supposed to do right now - certainly military action would be a stupid idea, but entirely ignoring this or searching for reasons to blame our own leaders for the actions of a man we've all been expecting this sort of thing of for years seems hypocritical to say the least. Leaking that we're not even prepared to impose trade sanctions just makes us look like Chamberlain heading to Munich.

If a Crimean majority wants to go back to being independent and a vote can be organised, excellent, have at it... if Russia wants to bully Crimean independence militarily or widen his army's scope to the rest of Ukraine? Well, that is exactly the sort of thing we should be disapproving of and it's difficult to argue it another way without desperately searching for shaky justifications. I know we're fearful of diplomatic stand offs in 2014, but that's no excuse to act like a bunch of pussies with our heads in the sand. We were all pretty content that Putin was a wrong'n a couple of months ago... now he's actually acting like a wrong'n everyone on the Internet wants to be his friend. It's pretty pathetic.

Hopefully this will be resolved by diplomatic means. I think that all of the nations pulling out of the G8 meeting is showing Russia that all of the countries involved with that meeting do not approve of Russia invading a sovereign territory which goes against international law. Although, I was reading somewhere that Russia believes it is acting within its rights of the treaty that was signed between them and Ukraine.

We've been having very late night flights in our area. Our area got a FAA noise curfew in 2011. No flights after 11:30pm or before 6:30 am. Every night two or three flights will go out between 2 and 4 am. I am assuming they are military aircraft out of Moffett field? They head roughly north to south. I can assure you this was not happening a couple of weeks ago.

thing is, this is the way the facts are presented in Western media, my company works with an outsourced team in Ukraine (in Kharkiv, near the Russian border to be precise), and what these guys tell me is that they are pro-russian (and probably ethnic russians for the most of them), they don't see the russian intervention as bullying but as Russia stepping in to prevent violence against ethnic russians (again, do not forget the context is that atm Ukraine is a state where the elected government, that was admittedly corrupt, but still, has been overthrown by a "popular" uprising led by far right nationalists and the new government, regardless of its legitimacy, so far hasn't made any steps to rein in those far-rights elements who are casually advocating for Ukraine to be "cleansed of Russians and Jews")

In related news, America intervenes in Canada to prevent violence against ethnic Americans?
