Structure of the bassline

Post by slowfimusic » Wed Mar 05, 2014 8:48 pm

So i'm new to producing dubstep and cannot find any basic structure guides/tutorials or forums that have explained the basic structure behind a dubstep bassline/drop. For example dubstep like Coffi, Soloman,P0gman, Topki and so on.

I was wondering if anyone can explain it

There isn't really a fixed structure. You're not going to find anything that says something like "two yoi basses for two eighth notes and then a growl for a quarter note" Just listen to your favorite tunes and analyze them. Do you have a background in music at all?

Why dont you pick a music scale in the key signature your track will be in.
Draw all the notes in the piano roll so you know what notes to use.
Then experiment with those notes using different sounds, note timings; 8ths, 16ths depending on the sound ect.
Also look at the chords that will fit over the scale. Like Chords I IV V etc

I know that'll go over your head if you are a beginner but it'll come the more you write and practice
