Re: The Architecture Thread
It is seared into your consciousness, the only thing you see. The organizing principle behind all information. 130 bpm.
Re: The Architecture Thread
Can anyone recommend any good books on architecture?
Re: The Architecture Thread
Relevant to the thread, has anyone been watching "The Brits Who Built The Modern World" on BBC? It's all on the iPlayer at the moment... three hour long docs on the Hi-Tech generation, Nicholas Grimshaw, Norman Foster, Richard Rogers and a few others. Amazing to see quite how much of modern London they built between them... and how far afield their influence went.
The second episode starts with a nice long look at one of my favourite buildings to walk past in London, the Lloyds of London building:

I'd never even heard of it before starting work next door to it a few years ago, so had no idea it was so highly thought of. Initially I couldn't work out whether it was the world's most inappropriately situated factory or the best bank I'd ever seen. It's like a money factory!

Big up man, added that to my wishlist. Ended up getting this for now, not so strictly architecture related, but wanted it for a while.

Cool.
The ones you seem to prefer Gareth, are all kind of 'abbrassive' on account of them working against the surroundings. It's interesting wether you want a building to manifest itself or enhance what is there already. But I like it. It's no amazing logical principle like Bauhaus tho, more just decorative. They look similar in a robot left his helmet behind kind of way

Re: The Architecture Thread
I always find it much harder to love people's houses than big fuck off developments designed around hundreds or thousands of people, but some of those are really nice. As much as I love me a good building, a Grand Designs marathon is my personal idea of hell.
