Bass processing in FL Studio

Post by DerpyDog » Wed Mar 12, 2014 12:20 am

Hey everyone, I've got a not so quick question.

So a while back I started getting into darker, deeper dubstep (Badklaat, Biome, Commodo, all that good stuff) and had been producing for 2-3 years but had never done resampling.

So as time went, I got better and better at it (still not too good though) and developed and varied techniques. I use FL and so far, for bass processing, I.ve found it to be extremely annoying, probably because of my idiotic file management

Here is what I do to get my basses and here is why Id like to find a different way of doing it:
-Build a solid drum pattern, and get the raw massive sound to play to notes i want.
-Record that sound as wave, while mutting drums
-Open another project, in which I drag my .wav and frequency split it
-Record the different freq splitted track
-Export those three new tracks in the same new project
-From there, I get working on effects
-Once Im satisfied with what I've done, record the post-processed pattern and drag its wav onto my main project
-Mix it into the track

But here is the really annoying part: I don't know what my sound will be like at first, so after having it fully processed, I might realize the massive patch needs tweeking, or I might want to change the LFO. The problem is, in order for me to do that, I have to:
-Record the changed pattern
-Put it through my freq splitted channels, and record again
-Put it back onto the project and reassigning it to the fx channel
-Record it again
-Drag it to my main project.m
Its just too much work when I just want to change an lfo from 1/2 to 1/4 :p

Because of that, I often loose interest in a project after I end up with litteraly 20 different .wav when I only use one and get confused.

Surely there's gotta be an easier way. How do other people do it?

Thanks for the help

I think that's just one of the risks you have to take with bouncing stuff, I have pretty much the same process as you but I leave it as late as I can so I'm more or less sure that I'm not going to need to change anything. A couple of times I've wanted to change stuff but ended up just keeping it because fuck repeating that whole process

A good way i would go about it (to save a few steps)

1. Get your raw massive and link it to a mixer channel (after you have your pattern etc.)
2. Open up an instance of 'Patcher'
3. Use 3 'Equo's to split frequencies within 'Patcher'
4. Add FX to each section as desired after each 'Equo'
5. Bounce to WAV then chop or whatever as necessary
