How long do you typically spend on a track

However long it takes, tbh. Some tunes I can get through in a couple of hours, others have come together over a course of a few months from the discarded bones of other projects.

This is why I always bounce projects into individual loops. A hi hat pattern from one discarded project can easily slot into another. Label the loops in bpm or key as well for ease of browsing.

That's a good idea I might start doing that, saving loops.

I've been working on this track for so long it feels like. It's changed three times since I started it and now it's almost to something I like...

I have a pretty recurring cycle of how I produce tracks. I'll produce something I really like, and it just flows out in a few hours or a day. Then for the next few days or week I'll try to make tunes following the same process (probably subconcsiously trying to make the same tune again because it feels good to get a good idea out fast) but I usually don't like them and they never get finished. After those few days-week/weeks I'll make something in a completely different style or using different techniques and it gets done in a few hours or a day. and that's where the cycle starts over.

I'll just suddenly get a lot of inspiration and I get a tune done in 2-5 hours. That's how I work.

always get an initial burst of creativity then i sit on it and periodically work on it for a month or two until i'm satisfied (never happy, it's always kinda shit to me)

I try and spend a lot of time layering drums and making pads/basses until I have a pallet of sounds available, which I can choose from during the composition process.

I have found that when I create new patches during the arranging process I tend to hit a brick wall.
Now I create lots of pads with different versions and save them within the ESX24. This way I can audition them with a track that I'm working on so I can find one that suits the rest of the track.

I'll save the channel strips that I've used and also save the reverb setting (if I have added any to the sound). This way I can use the same reverb on other elements within a track in order to create a sense of coherency between each element.

If I like a pad but I want to change it slightly, I'll load up te channel strip preset that I have saved and adjust the desired parameters accordingly

Half a year on every track ;-( I'm so slow. Sometimes everything ends up being really overproduced and complicated.
The draft itself takes about 2-4 hours, bet perfecting every little detail takes a lot of frustrating hours of tinkering.

I feel like for me tunes get finished quicker and quicker, like 3-6 days. Although sometimes ill work on a track for like 2 days straight and then not do shit for like two weeks and then come back and finish it in another 1-2 days

Around twenty minutes. If I have to work on it any longer than that I discard the track.
