Am I being duped?
Hey all,
Just wanted to air my thoughts about something that happened to me yesterday on SoundCloud - it just seems a bit... coincidental and I'm wanting a 2nd opinion.
I got contacted by a guy on SoundCloud about three weeks ago asking whether he could promote a track of mine (the one in my sig) on his website. I replied immediately, saying of course and that it was fine by me. I checked his account and he had one follower so, although that was a bit odd, I thought nothing more of it.
I didn't hear ANYTHING from the same guy until yesterday when he stated that the song was up on his 'website' and linked me to it. I followed the link and it took me to the website 'http://www.druhix.com' which hosts like, a million different songs on there through some web player. However, the track that was on there was my latest track and not the song he had originally agreed to.
Now, the weird thing is, over the course of the rest of the day my plays skyrocketed - they went from about 50ish (usually what I'm getting these days) to over 800 over the course of 12 hours, stopping about 3/4ish this morning. I've also got a few comments on there but they're all from people who have one or two followers, and they all look a bit similar in the style that they're written. The guy then posted back to link me to 'his site' saying if I want to add more tracks then I can do. The link he provided goes to a website (http://cp.justpressplay.com) which confuses the hell out of me but as far as I can tell, it looks like a place where you pay for plays (completely coincidentally, my plays have gone back to their usual level since this morning).
Initially I was grateful that someone wanted to host my track on a site but now I'm getting the feeling that A) The person is probably a bot and B) I'm probably being propositioned for a pay-for-plays scheme. What do you guys think?

its a bot
you are being propositioned for a pay for plays scheme

Re: Am I being duped?
Looked through both sites, and I have no idea what I'm looking at. Assuming you didn't provide the guy a d/l link, it looks like Druhix is just generating Soundcloud embedded playlists?
If you're not being charged yet, then just accept the extra plays/listeners IMO

Re: Am I being duped?
Lol- no dip Sherlock.
Further, never pay for that crap. If you are into the "build my soundcloud following with bots" philosophy, you can buy your own software to do it permanently for you, which is more cost efficient.
Even further, when I was 100% noob, I actually got that software and I will say "build my following with bots philosophy" has pros and cons- you will get increased real exposure, but you will also look like a total idiot to anybody decent. So if you want to network with mediocrity (lol my music sucks and i got asked to do a show one time based on my follower base, so ridiculous), I highly advise you buy your own bot.
Now I'm only 50% noob, so I don't do bot crap.
Hope that helps.

Re: Am I being duped?
Yeah, I had no clue either. Like you, I would assume that it is indeed a website that embeds SoundCloud links.wub wrote:Looked through both sites, and I have no idea what I'm looking at. And that's what I'm thinking too, it's just sad how deceptive some people can be.
splendid - Yeah, I'd never shell out for that shit because there's absolutely no acclaim in paying for plays and follows so there is no point in me even entertaining that notion.

Re: Am I being duped?
I have a theory, it goes like this:
It's pretty much a testing scam. The guy who is asking you is trying to find a way to dupe Soundcloud so he can get his views without it being reversed, and he needs a song to use as a prototype. The best way for him to do this would be to make a new account, then ask someone with as couple hundred views if he can 'promote' their record.
When soundcloud comes over to inspect, they see a one-friend user asking a completely legitimate question then botting. They can't delete the musician because how was he supposed to know that this user was going to bot his record. If he didn't ask then SC could safely guess that he had bought views on another site.

Re: Am I being duped?
sounds like a good way to get free plays lol
double edged sword.. good for your tracks.. gets more legit users more reason to click play, but also on a personal level you know the views weren't real..

^ This.
I just don't like being tricked tbh. Never paid for plays and never would but the tactics that they're employing is very sneaky.

Re: Am I being duped?
I had this same thing happen a few months ago with the same company.
Once the track was up never heard from him again - it seems to be some kind of web radio... he never asked for money or anything like that and as everyone above says i got a load of plays on that track.
Not really sure what the idea is behind it... i assumed he just wanted loads of tracks in his software.. maybe he is going to charge people to use his radio station or something?
It's not a bot btw cause i had a back and forth with him over a couple of emails.
