[Complextro & Dubstep] Production & Technique /Feedback Chat

Post by arcane uk » Wed Mar 19, 2014 10:51 pm

This is my EP, its free to download! Just wanted to post it up on here and get socializing with like minded producers / broaden my non-existent network / help people achieve the sounds and production they desire (if i can help). :D

I like the vibe to the second track. Did you play the piano sound or was it a sample? nice work.

@Kudos yeh man i just played the notes in, quantized it then played around with the midi to keep it rolling. Its actually logics default paino plugin but i EQ'd with the API-550. Im looking into getting native instruments "the giant" when its next on sale.

@hiv3Mind Thanks bro, you can use Logics exs24 to do the pitching but i never get good results with that (i assume their are similar sampling plugins for ableton, reason, cubase etc). So i create a few different audio channels and pitch them differently using a pitch altering plugin and basically chop the original vocal up and throw them around till i get a sound or melody im happy with. It usually helps if you can find a vocal that is in the same key as your song so you dont get any odd sounding pitches. I normally avoid pitching down for stuff like this, although i have been hearing some progressive house tracks that have vocals pitched down and it sounds really good. Food for thought :D

Do you use some type of FM synthesis for your basslines? They're super clean and metallic, great work!

@orlandobloominonion i really like that you used the word metallic. Razor - NI. Its just incredible for bass stuff. I feel like Massive gets all the credit for bass work from NI and Razor is put in the corner. Even the Init preset with the " dirty limiter" applied is an incredible sound, and that is Razor in its most basic form. I wish it was a stand alone plugin and not used via the Reaktor player though, i use the free Reaktor version and when you have a few instances of Razor in one project, it gets really CPU heavy -_-

Lol I think I'm gonna have to put a disclaimer on that link. I made the beat for it but it's my mate's soundcloud. He's had like 5 beatport number ones as a rapper on other people's EDM stuff so he draws a crowd. He's also really good with his promo.

My soundcloud is https://soundcloud.com/Gen0 It's a ghost town atm and with good reason, I'm a few mixdowns from dropping an EP and haven't put anything up for ages barring work I've done in different styles for others. No dub/wub, no fans man!
