There's also some cool plugins with interesting feedback schemes. Ubermod, Pitchfunk, UHe MFM, etc

All the little kids that stole the program would blow their speakers within 15 minutes of download and fl would have an even worse reputation. In response to your last question.

I guess.

Also, sad note; the developer from Valhalla got back to me,and apparently Shimmer isn't supported on FL8 :(

But then those kids would have to stop using it and would be thus purged from the userbase.

There should be a script that detects when you insert soundgoodizer and deletes your soundcloud account.

Shitty studio machine, mainly. It's been due for a replacement for a while now, and I keep telling myself I'll wait until I've got the new machine before updating FL11 directly onto it.

This thing with Shimmer is probably the final nail in the coffin for it, TBH.

Anyone suggest a good build? Thinking currently

i5/7 (depending on total cost)
ASUS motherboard
16Gb Corsair RAM
128Gb SSD (boot drive)
2 x 1Tb SATA w/ RAID (storage & backup)

Then doing some research on PSUs, silent running the whole thing etc. Will need to also look at sound interface a bit more now that I've got hardware gear coming out of my ears.

I went silent. I did increase the cost considerably. My biggest issue was the sound card. I had the PC silent except for the graphics card. Initially went with a heatsinkless, and it was fucking up so bad, so underpowered, had to replace it with a legit card, and that fan on there was noisy. I don't know if they've made improvements since then.

Over time though, the pc started to get noisier. I don't know what it would take, replacing my fans and power supply? Maybe the fan on my cpu cooler - which looks like a component of a car engine.

And seeing as how you're constantly updating your stuff (do you notice sarcasm?) I'd future proof your pc, go all the way, defo do a really fast 5 or 7. My absolutely silent power supply, btw was a corsair.

And yes, I see a patchbay and at least an 8 ins for you in the future.

Every right to be sarcastic, I hold my hands up here as a lazy bastard.

Ok, any recommendations on make/model for that?

Almost a year ago now, I made my new pc purchase. I've been a gamer longer than I've been producing, so that drove my purchase decisions....anyways:

i5 - 3570K
8gb Corsair Vengeance
256gb SSD
Asus gtx 670 DCU2
Asus Z77 (i think)...
Corsair Case

Total cost was just over 900 at the time I bought it...
My current interface is a scarlet 2i2 (my first one). I love everything I have, and so far haven't found a reason to upgrade anything....

I can defo recommend a patchbay: Samson S patch plus - a 48 channel balance patchbay. It is the shit. Blows away a prior dbx patchbay I used back in the day. Just a really nice, configurable, rock solid, patching this mother fucker all day erry day no problems whatsoever patchbay.

Cheap too.

Now as far as audio devices... not sure on that one. I'm using an E-MU 1616m. A lot of ins and outs, it is really really awesome, sounds really good (relative to other low and midrange options I've heard) but it is antique dude. As far as I can tell there are win 7 drivers, but no 8 drivers, some people have gotten it to work in 8... but it is over for this device.

For you I'm thinking Motu.

That is not a bad price at all...hoping I've got enough space in my Ikea rack under the Alesis units to fit it in.

Good value/bang for the buck. Lots of io options. Good reputation. Probably would be the way I'd go if I had to do a new interface. Am resisting it. I have no income whatsoever, so it is difficult to upgrade anything.

Just ordered all the parts from newegg, and picked up the graphics card from a retailer here in the states called Fry's....But I've been building my machines for a while now and have found that newegg is better overall than tigerdirect. Sometimes tiger has stuff that newegg has back ordered, but otherwise newegg's customer service has won me over. I've also ordered pre-built machines from retailers like CyberPowerPC, etc....Ultimately, piecing all the components together yourself IS THE BEST value no matter how you look at it...

NWJ pull out all your fans, pop open the oil well cover and fill those suckers with some 3 In 1. Give em a good manual spin, cram some bunched up tissue in there and wipe out all the gunk. I do this regularly for everything but my GPU which doesn't have an accessible fan. The more diligent you are about keeping them lubed up, the longer they'll last.

Wub I'd say a new gen i7 build would last you a while. I'm still riding one of the earlier generation i7s. My SSD's only 80 gigs though, filled to the brim with Windows, Battlefield, 3DS Max, and my production programs. Would be nice to have a 250 gig one or something. Good news is they're getting better and cheaper as time passes so I can always throw in another. As long as you get the fundamentals of your build down, you can upgrade shit down the road like drives and ram.

Fair, my last machine was a self build but the cabling was a tnuc so I'd prefer to pay a bit more and have someone put it together for me.

Current spec from PCSpecialist is;

i7 3.5Ghz
ASUS Z87M Plus
16Gb Kingston RAM
120Gb Kingston SSD
2 x 1Tb Caviar Black SATAs
Corsair 750w RM Ultra Quiet PSU

1174€ all in. Eeep :o

Was just going to take the standard option, no need for anything fancy is there for audio production?

There is depending. I always say no need... but look dude, your machine needs to draw all those vsts that have all kinds of updating graphics. I'm using 30 instances of EQuality with analyser turned on, some Fab with drawing info. You do actually kind of need pretty good graphics. I've got some plugs that flicker supposedly as a result of fucked up opengl issues or something. I don't know. I wouldn't skimp on it.

And re buidling it, go for it dude. Just get an Antec case. Their cable management is pretty close to top notch.

This is a good point.

The options I've got are NVIDIA and AMD Radeon. Not a clue about either of these, they come in 1Gb all the way up to 6Gb. What sort of level would I be looking for? Honestly never bought a graphics card before, is 1Gb sufficient for what I'm going to be doing?
