On a day to day basis, how am I meant to act on that knowledge?
In theory or in a moral sence the effort is just minding it, which is escapingly vague terms but still a huge difference.

ye basicaly this ^

u dont really have to do anything

just be aware that it exists and take it into consideration in certain situations
"take into consideration". Again, everybody here is just being like the guy in the article. Nobody can say what you're meant to do with the information. Ok, I'm a white man, I know in this country, that gives me a lot of leverage, but what am I meant to do? Day to day life, just walk around, worrying about it all the time? Nah man. Fuck it, I appreciate the situation I was born into, but I don't get what I'm meant to do with it. I'm just not a dickhead to people for no reason.

loool ffs gaz man stop getting so irate , we're not being like the guy in the article :cornlol:

personally i dont think u necessairly have to DO anything. ur aware of it, safe, most people just arent aware at all. they dotn even acknowledge institutionalised racism is a thing. ur not meant to feel guilty or like ur somehow indebted to anyone cos ur privileged by being white. just being appreciative of otherw ppls circumstances b2b empathetic

but by taking it into consideration in certain circumstanbces i mean shit like when black kids get murdered in cold blood by white people in america and ur like "well those white dudes got off with it scott free just cos they were white n the kid was black" and other people are like "lol stupid black kids always up to no good, freedom eagles etc", then mebs tell them off and explain theyre being dickheads
topmo3 wrote:that's so true. people acknowledging racism in any way be they the instigators or the targets doesnt matter all they do is perpetuate the problem which is fucking dumb.

hey every1 plz lets just ignore the huge amounts of racism across the world and just pretend it isnt happenign, then the problem will go away :4:

yeah benny, but constantly brining it up does make it more apparent in certain situations, which isnt always good

in most situations and social groups theres no need whatsoever nowadays, so bringing it up almost creates something that wasn't even there

Bringing up racism is supposed to make it more apparent. The more apparent something is, the more aware you are of its existence. Choosing when and where to sweep a situation under the rug is 100 times worse in the long run.

I dont understand the logic of your second bit either really.

i dunno, i just mean like, if you've got a mixed group of friends and you all treat and respect each other equally

to bring it up seems pointless - and will almost create a divide that wasnt even there

Everyone is going at this from extremes. Ignoring racism is of course a dick thing to do but also constantly thinking about everything regarding race when it isn't a factor in a situation is also ridiculous to the point that it could be racist. The point is I'm gonna continue not being racist/sexist/homophobic and never think about it unless someone is being a dick and should be called out. I'm not gonna think about white privilege for example most of the time because it rarely seems to be an issue I see in my day to day life.

i think racism is still very much a thing especially in america, its just that it doesnt exist in the form of outright segregation or the KKK any more, now is expressed more subtly in the form of institutionalized, legalized racism, ie privatized prisons and the prison industrial complex

somehow i guess it doesnt bother people that the US has 5% of the world population but 25% of all incarcerated individuals in the world

if the person who doesn't constantly acknowledge institutionalised racism is not racist why does it matter if he recognises it or not?

I get your point bro! now is more efficient to make a friendly racist law than straightly beat them up with masks.

Yes it was because of the spanish accent.

lol i know it sounds like that but that's not what i meant
what i was actually thinking but wasnt able to type was that constantly seeing racism EVERYWHERE and digging up old shit and making a huge number out of things and interpreting stuff wrong on purpose is wrong and silly. of course if someone is a blatant racist u should confront them not ignore it categorically.

and i dislike henry rollins very much didnt know he said something like that :u:

so to extend that if you personally don't witness any racism you don't need to 'acknowledge' your 'white privilege'?
