Can anybody tell me where to start from??

I listen to mostly artists like Skrillex,Alvin Risk,Kill The Noise,Flux Pavilion.I know many of you hate this kind of music,but it is what I like . I want to get into production but don't exactly know where to start from.
And can somebody please tell me about the least amount of music theory needed for producing dubstep/brosteppy tracks?I will eventually learn full music theory but right now I just need to get a start.
And do Skrillex like tracks have a chord progression?? What does key of a song mean??

I would read this with a set of keys in front of me and kind of "play along" to what the author explains. Unfortunately it is hard to quantify "how much theory" you need as each "part" of music theory informs your understanding of all the other "parts".

Otherwise there is some kind of sticky thread at the top of this forum that contains a lot of good info on getting started. Probably called the getting started thread or something.

I also thought the music theory guide on Groove3 (pay) is quite good. It does use sheet music/classical notation to explain a lot of things, but I didn't find it confusing.

Here's a tip;

Put in the work. There is no shortcut to the top so stop looking for it. It takes years of practice to get to that level of production so aiming for the stars is not going to help you - just bear them in mind and focus on your own sound and style and not what others are doing.

The least amount is none at all, but then what your tracks sound like might not be what you want. The guide the Fragments recommended above is a good starting block.

I'm not too familiar with Skrillex tracks, so can't say for sure if he uses a key change or not. This is a well known Dubstep tune with a key change;

You answered everything I possibly needed.

I don't really see Request Line as having a key change. I just hear it as a chord change. Although the iv chord does have a major 7, everything else fits into the key of C minor. You could look at it like C harmonic minor that modulates to F harmonic minor, but F sounds like it has a major 6 in it, so it'd have to be F Dorian #7. Much simpler to just class it as a i-iv in C minor with some major sevenths added in.

If you are a beginner it might be worth just subscribing to their service as it is tons cheaper than buying all the videos one by one. The mix down series is worth watching too, even for the rock stuff etc.

I am going to subscribe as soon as I finish this course.Their tutorials are detailed and very easy to understand.
