Thanks, I managed to study up for the CCENT and was feeling confident in taking it until they changed the exam again. It's freaking exhausting. I know the money is good though and the knowledge is finitely valuable in today's day and age so it's worth keeping on.wub wrote:Respect to you, CCNx series qualifications are bastards.Jhonny2x4 wrote:My CCNA, while trying to acquire the funds for 3 routers and 3 switches
Congrats to all you tech nerds (including you wub) for persevering. It's a fun and painful road.

If you make it up to CCIE you're pretty much set for life. It'll be a way off though, so in the meantime focus on the voice/collaboration elements wherever possible. Industry will be shifting toward that in a big way in the next few years.
I've supposedly got some Riverbed certification to do at some point in the next year or so
Re: Coding Ninjas
computer science major was probably my 2nd choice
it wouldve been nice to learn it in an academic setting probably but i get by
python is probably my favorite to work with, syntax is straighforward and there's a lot of useful libraries for it. numpy completely replaces matlab too which is nice for a physics major like me

I was reporting to the director of shared services, but in a kind of inverse of that, everyone seems to have had input on me and the project.Jhonny2x4 wrote:nowaysj wrote:It's also a nightmare. Billed 110 hours for that week.
That Saturday or Sunday was finishing up, but had to wait by a door to hold it open for Sergey Brin who was checking out the company.

Were you under a project manager or was this more of a solo job?

Re: Coding Ninjas
just finished a really ghetto sequencer. like you cant move notes up and down but you can move them side to side. so basically you can just play back scales lol. it works tho, which i more than i can usually say fro my C++
Re: Coding Ninjas
fair play man, can you improve on it to make it do more stuff? that's all that matters imo, so long as you can add to itSinestepper wrote:just finished a really ghetto sequencer. like you cant move notes up and down but you can move them side to side. so basically you can just play back scales lol. it works tho, which i more than i can usually say fro my C++

Question to coding chaps;
If I want to learn Python, how do I go about getting a test environment? Like, what assuming I can write the text, what do I use to compile and run the code in?

What are those and where can I get them?

Then in eclipse go to the marketplace, install the PyDev plugin

Interesting thread…
I'm just about to finished my LLB law degree, next week wed (thank fuck), well technically i still have to wait untill 3rd of june for last oral exam, but it's only 20% and it's oral.
If the last 2/3 weeks i've been reconsidering what to do with my life because I don't want to go into the law sector now. Instead I want to getting to computer science and programming/ coder - self taught. I've been doing some research. My first steps are going to be to take the intro in computer science CS50x from Harvard uni thru edx. Then, or perhaps together, I going to join treehouse to start the web design course, learn the basics of html and CSS, just enough to make a static website. I'll also probably do something on code acemdy as well. Then i'll take a ruby course to learn how to make dymainic and real websites, propably take one month ruby course as well. Hopefully by this point, I could have got a basic understanding to make a website. From there..? I don't know.
Why am i doing this, what are the jobs prospects other this software design? I think it's because i like the idea of games developer. I don't know. But i intent on spending 6-8 hours day on this, so this is not going to be some sort of side hobby. I intended is really learning all of goodness. Take this jounry see where it leads me.
Any tips?

I got my CCNA certification last September. That exam was a bitch. I do highly recommend setting up a lab. Scour ebay and craigslist. I ended up scoring three Cisco 2950 switches for $10 each plus shipping. I have an 1841 router, a 2610XM, 1721 and a couple of old 2500 series routers all of which I got for cheap. The 1841 was a bit more.
I may do the A+, I may not. I just did the Security+ last month and I have to finish the Linux+ by the end of June.Jhonny2x4 wrote: My A+ learn Unix;
I had to get fairly deep into Backtrack and Kali. I competed in a couple of cyber defense competitions last year. I really want to get deeper into that side of things but I have to focus on doing this Linux+ cert for my classes and my degree right now.Jhonny2x4 wrote: Learn BackTrack/Kali Linux;
I know a couple of you here heard me moaning about having to sell some musical gear in another thread because I couldn't find a job and was about completely broke. Well I just got a job this week as a Network Technician (mostly help desk stuff). Today was my first day. Just in the nick of time. I was applying at Guitar Center and shit just because I needed a gig.
I would like to learn some coding later on down the line. It would be good to know.

So good to hear dude! Congrats.
Just do me a favor... oh never mind, best not mention the wintery one, the one who moved to Russia.

Re: Coding Ninjas
I just passed the LX0-101 exam today, part one of the two part exam for the Linux+ certification. It wasn't pretty but it was a pass. This exam was tricky, it was all command line commands and options which there are thousands. On to the LX0-102.mks wrote:I have to finish the Linux+ by the end of June.
Re: Coding Ninjas
I've been keeping an eye on this thread, had a play with kali and wireshark (tpcdump) looking at internet traffic. Quite interested in learning more about networking but not sure where to start. Relative who is a pentester for a big company said I should do a CCNA course... But I'm really not all that knowledgeable lol, not sure i'd manage it.

Re: Coding Ninjas
if youre intimidated by CCNA (probably shouldnt be, ive heard its pretty simple. if youre playing around with kali and wireshark youre capable enough to handle it i think), you can CCENT which is like the most entry level
Re: Coding Ninjas
CCNA was actually a difficult exam, many people don't pass it their first time. You need to have routing protocols down like OSPF, EIGRP and RIP, subnetting, Switching concepts like trunking, VLANs, STP and VTP, access control lists etc etc.
You really need to have hands on experience in a lab or build your own test lab. It can be done with Packet Tracer but it would be better if you had your hands on some real hardware.
Now the course path is CCENT -> CCNA Routing and Switching -> CCNA options like Security, VOIP etc. -> CCNP
I know there are a lot of people that go down the braindump route, but they are really just memorizing things without a solid foundation to build from.

nevermind what i said then, i think whoever told me it was pretty simple probably did CCENT and i remembered wrong
