Re: Post Your Random Thoughts Thread!
The sound is unfortunately entirely dependant on analog summing, which just means the entire mixdown has been played out of some machine.
The reason it sounds different is the signal to noise ratio, that can sound great in analog eventhough it's superceding the dynamic threshold. Which sounds clicky or hollow in digital.
It's kind of the same difference between paint and coat paint for cars.
Like you could get an analog sound if you mixed some bits of rust or salt in your paint. Hmm... get mi?

Realised today, after years of neglect, that I'm crap at keeping up with non-electronic music now. I basically only keep up with new releases from bands I already know about, and even that is hard enough.
Anyone know any good websites for keeping up with good stuff? Pretty much only checking Pitchfork every now and then.

Metacritic's good for keeping up with releases from all genres.
Re: Post Your Random Thoughts Thread!
yeah this too, i try to listen to more band stuff, but the constant cycle of mixes, radio shows, dj sets and vinyl releases makes it so much easier for me to follow dance music consistently
pitchforks useful but covers too many ambient/noise/techno projects for me

Make a 'this is gonna to be released in 2014'-thread and put those dates on something like Google Agenda.garethom wrote:the end of year lists are where I get most of my pitchfork recommendations.RKM wrote:yeah this too, i try to listen to more band stuff, but the constant cycle of mixes, radio shows, dj sets and vinyl releases makes it so much easier for me to follow dance music consistently

Pitchfork is fucking bullshit. Reading that actively is bad for you. I promise.

I don't read any of the gossip or whatever, it's decent for talking about new releases.

They also change reviews/scores for EPs and Albums depending on how members of the public react.
Give generally misguided reviews too imo.
They also rate a lot of shit stuff highly.
