lol that's why I posted. now i know there's almost no chance of recovering any money if i choose to sell in the future.Func wrote:OP didn't think this through, the new records that go for stupid money are all unplayed (which is why people get upset) you'll never ever see an ex DJ copy anywhere near £50. Also keep in mind people will avoid ordering from the US if there are other choices.
Re: Do any ninjas make decent money buying/selling vinyls?
If you don't fuck em up they should hold a fair amount of value though still unless they're tunes that turn out to not be wanted by anyone down the line.
I reckon you should just buy records and enjoy having them. If you need to sell them in the future just see what happens then.

think cloaked_up is joking i.e. ridiculing buying records for anything other than playing them i.e. what you're meant to do with them.dubunked wrote:this true?cloaked_up wrote:also note to OP
if you play your records they are worth nothing, they need to be 'mint' or 'unplayed' to have any value
If you buy fresh needles on the regs that are weighted correctly, play records carefully and stick em back in sleeves straight away they lose fuck all value if they are sought after/ hard to come buy. Good VG+'s look pretty fresh
Re: Do any ninjas make decent money buying/selling vinyls?
I wont buy overpriced vinyl on discogs takes the piss when some knob from the internet is making more money off it than the artist prob got for the whole release
Re: Do any ninjas make decent money buying/selling vinyls?
I really need to get my own technics turntable
I'm using my parents' shitty automatic one down in the living room now, and I think the needle is majorly fucked up, hasn't been changed since the 80's. I don't end up playing my records too often even though I've got a decent stack of about 37 records.

if you check ebay you can find old non-sl1200 technics models for really good prices . just stick on a new cartridge and youre good to go
got an sl1900 in perfect working condition for about $40, nice to listen to records on when youre not mixing since its automatic and can repeat

Re: Do any ninjas make decent money buying/selling vinyls?
Definitely, Technics made many more models than just the industry standard SL-1200/1210. I've had a few very solid turntables that were not 1200's from Technics, one belt, two were direct drives and they were great turntables. I got them for between $20 and 50 bucks. Those are what I learned how to DJ on before I could afford 1200's.Phigure wrote:if you check ebay you can find old non-sl1200 technics models for really good prices . just stick on a new cartridge and youre good to go

After graduating they wouldn't really be of any use to me, unless I were to buy my own turntables of course, so I may sell all the vinyl in like 2 years. Do you think this would make for a worthwhile expenditure? I see so many ridiculous prices on discogs, but do most records actually sell at good enough prices to actually make your money back and/or make a profit a few years down the road?

You'll lie about the value of your record to weasel a few bucks out of people.

Re: Do any ninjas make decent money buying/selling vinyls?
my guitar teacher makes a decent amount of money buying/selling records, mostly jazz it seems
he sifts through the dollar bins hoping to find an expensive record and he actually finds a lot of good stuff. like when i have a lesson with him he'll be all like "oh i just picked this record up for like 2 bucks and turns out it's worth like 80 on discogs!" his discogs account is ridiculous though, much respect
