SYSTEM ERROR - DISTORTION DUB remix
really unhappy with the first one, the more i listened i realised the structure was fucked up too much as it was all a bit too weird. heres a new mixown and rearrange with some added bits to make it more interesting and added a wee bit more darkness. any comments would be much appreciated - thanks, ben.

Yeah, I liked that one - it evolves well, enough to keep it interesting. There are certain synth noises that didn't sit right to my taste 9 (about 3.20 and 3.37), but it is my taste after all. I think maybe if that part was done on a reverbed up hammond vst it would've sounded better - it appears to be that sort of vibe you were going for and would give it a bit more of a traditional dub flava.
I think the samples a bit too obvious and the tune didn't really need it, as there's enough changes going on anyway.
The filters and bit crushed bits sounded really good and I liked the breakbeat at the end (enough that I would have liked to hear it throughout the tune to give it a bit more energy).
Never quite sure why dubstep's evolved into this half-step thing as loads of the early stuff seemed to be around 130-140 BPM whereas things do get a bit ploddy at 70BPM, but yeah I liked this.

D/l a lot speedier later - I like the jungle mix, liked the fuzzy bass. I think jungle was the first dance music I got into (the pre-drum and bass stuff) and I think this was a pretty good toon. Liked the fuzz bass especially. Nice to see you didn't just go for loads of amens (although to be honest that still works for me!)
I think one of the things I've been looking into lately is trying to incorporate some of those old jungle riffs into the slower tempos, but the beats seem a little too slow at 140 - Darqwan and Dubchild seem to do it Ok, but I'll have to keep looking into it how to acheive it. Seems to be that you might have to double-speed parts of the break so that it still has that energy. Dubstep beats don't usually work at jungle speeds because the syncopation only works at a particular tempo. Try listening to Bigga Times by Darqwan - he seems to get it down pretty well. It seems that if you've got the talent for those beats, you should incorporate that more into your work.
Like I was saying earlier too much of the stuff being passed off as dubstep just seems way too ponderous and ploddy to me, the early tempa and ghost stuff, where it was more influenced by 2-step and garage seemed to be a lot more dancefloor friendly and now it just seems to be losing the dub part (and indeed the step). Seems to make more sense to me to take dancehall riddims from 90bpm to 130 than down to 70bpm (e.g.Buck and Bury by El-B, Special Request by Phoebe 1). Just my taste though, others may disagree.
Reminds me of loads of hip-hop clubs that just end up playing to moody blokes and no-one dancin. Not my idea of a good night out.
