High School Students Hold NFL Inspired Prom Draft

Students at a Newport Beach, California, high school may be facing disciplinary action after conducting an NFL-inspired "prom draft" this spring.

According to Adolfo Flores of the Los Angeles Times, male juniors and seniors at Corona del Mar High School drew numbers at random to determine the order in which they selected their female prom dates.

Participants looking to "improve" their draft position were allowed to pay money for a "high first-rank" pick, with one junior dropping $140 to move up and select the girl of his choice.

This would all be well and good, you know, if it weren't for the part where young men treat their non-consenting female counterparts as tradable commodities.

One student—who remains nameless due to the impending possibility of disciplinary action from the school—claims that many of his female classmates are fine with the arrangement.

"A lot of girls respect the draft and stick with those dates," he said. The unnamed student did admit that the process has caused some uncomfortable pairings.
