hm hm
i tend to use preset tbh not cause i dont understand the basic vsts lol but its so much faster to use a basic sound( you know one that exists )

and yeah it can get tricky with massive and those very well known sounds and presets but like a real basic vst i never touched a button is sq8l just effectchains afterwards
basically all those oldschool 8 bit vsts i just work my way through the presets and maybe minor tweaking if there are fx build in

but yeah find a sound that fits to your tune find a basic progression and from there you can change around with the sounds and the notes but if you have a working pad loop over your loop you are pretty much done :i:

Naw man, this ain't some epic battle of good and evil ;-)

Just have fun with it. Like, if you're playing your beats, just play a variation, maybe a variation that kind of terminates the beat, and lets you come into another section where maybe you isolate an element of the prior beat. Isolate that element (maybe bring something else into it), keep the beat ticking in the back of your head, 1,2,3,4;1,2,3,get ready, BAM you're back into your main beat section.

It's all still just playing, you know? It is just like, there is a step after getting that main beat setup. Get that main beat, then be like, okay, now the I'mma do the variation.

When you're working with these things, don't you pass by hundreds of possibilities, of like where things could go? Variations are great, because you get to indulge one of them, you get to investigate one of them.

Like you are driving down the main road, hey this is nice, and fast, but hey there are all these side branch streets coming off, hey I wonder what is down there, going to fast, okay, I wonder what is down that one, going to fast, I wonder what is going on down there, Ssssslllow down, make the turn and investigate. BOMB shawarma shop, never knew!

You know?

shiit you used sq8l to make the synths for the tune in your sig? impressive :Q: I got one of those oldskool vst's called 389113 lol, might explore that a bit more

hah, yeah I never get past presets to proper engineering level lol I am just not an engineer, I know that for sure by this point

I reckon I should show you something:
Soundcloud

what d'u reckon?

apparently noways has heard it already, big ups. i might have posted it here on the week it was made... but yeah that track is a very rare occasion where I actually worked properly with a sample

you know noways, I love variations and exploring new routes, 'tis the joy of this whole thing. but again, the problem is getting lazy dude. once i get a loop, i leave myself stuck inside it and its basically a case of me not being bothered to move on to a new variation :H:

i'm always to the albums those beat guys from LA put out, and guess what my reactions are the typical oh I can do that, let me just light up and imagine how my version would go and it pretty much stops there  gotta actually fekkin do it!!

What you should do is take one of those tracks in your daw, match the tempo, and just create markers or whatever for how often shit changes up or comes in or goes out or breaks down.

They switch it up way way way more than you think they are. You don't notice because they do it effortlessly, or so in the right spot that you're already expecting it in your head, they do it, and it is like you did it yourself.

Blow yourself away, and see how much they put into it.

Also, samiyam will do it less, he will just let a beat roll. But even then on just an intro he might introduce 4 things and break them and all.

Thats an idea, the markers thing. Yeah I think I'll try that!

The samiyam approach is amazing but for that to really work I need to up my hadware game, right now Im STILL producing with no hardware even though i made that atupid thread about buying something a few months ago :cornlol:

Haha, he is our resident producer for vocals.

We should form a production super group. Bud does vocals, Jizz you do beats and bass, dfault does foley percussives and atmospherics, Sunk can do what we could have done, and I get to do...

the arrangement and transitions.

@bud > 1001-6: really liking this one, though maybe it's a bit too stripped down, think it could benefits from a couple other elements (especially before 1:22) to make it more lively, even if it's just dubby delayed stabs similar to what you already have
also i'd suggest making the sub more interesting even if it's just making it play a lower note on the 4 as a sort of basic melody, just my 2cts tho

> Sanctum 3: feeling the track in itself but the vocals not so much, like they almost sound out of tune at times, maybe its just me though...
i think you should switch the woodblock-y snare you have with another harder-hitting one every once in a while, like to mark the end of a 8/16 bars phrase, or possibly maybe send it to a reverb sometimes
btw shitty dfaultrivia of the day and maybe you knew/don't care but that accapellas been used by falty dl in "hip love" :) sick tune w/ a jamie xx remix on the flip

@nowaysj: so it's g-funk with ADD this week? :D seriously tho, this one sounds pretty legit to me man, i like all the different parts and how you transition between them
i would have liked the funky stabbed chorus at the beginning to make a come back in the end, maybe to counter the gloomy vibe of the last part, i dunno if that makes sense, aside from that cannot critique it much really

@jizzman: may bee> feeling the melody of this one, as bud pointed out all those layers really complement each other well.
one thing i'd suggest would be to "dub" it a bit, like with the sort of haunting mood you have, some delay/reverb on some of the percussions wouldn't go amiss imo

SEXY: not much to say, liking it with the vocals, as bud suggests, make it public, this one sounds finished to me
also that hisahi tune you posted a couple of posts above :U: great atmosphere

:3 yeah haha i dunno with the vocals could be
really work by feeling by now not checking if its in key and stuff :(

have to check it out (the hip love)man i am so far away form the scene lol
but in general those ddoubleuses are hard to not to do most of the time you search for packs or bigger groups of acapellas and yeah there arent too many great acapellas around tbh ( or you turn a not so cool one upside down whcih might take huge amounts of time :3 )

Okay, that pledge I made in last weeks TUNA! post... not going to be fulfilled this week. HAHA!

Whytf can't I just like do as I'm supposed to do? Like I can't ever make anything just cool.

Fucking Gfunk lead, Iranian hand drums, dubstep sub, African voice chants, two step kick, 909 snare, hyped hats, synth flute trills, circular saw... Wait that actually sounds like it could be good. And still I fuck it up. What is that Gfunk lead doing in there, and worst still, it is like gfunk lead but that has been put in the key of Pat Metheny.

the thing is nowaysj
when you try sth new all the time which is good imo(you dont wanna step back in your ideas)
you will have only yourself or maybe some other experimental artists as comparisons

on the other hand if you do a genre tune you will find your weakspots in a heartbeat

so yeah mixdown might be a thing thats for all music maybe still theres lofi form tape to tape mixes80´s etc but that would be for me the only thign you can compare with tunes like that

out of key boring wierd etc would be sth that might be a step back in your ideas
