Could be intentional tbf. I saw em live quite a few years back now and they did a cover of "You're Not Alone" and also quite a few classic 90s dance bangers.

was pretty surprised mala put this out seeing as how blates of a root copy it is (maybe he likes to think of it as on homage)

also theyre both sick tunes obviously but las - preaching and kahn - dread both definitely take some inspiration from jah power, theyre clearly not plagiarism but i feel like they mightve been written as placeholder tunes to play out since everyones still waiting on jah power to get a release

This thread is evil imo. No point releasing music the way you guys go on tbh.
Half of you have bait track 'influences' uploaded to your soundcloud pages. Shouldn't even be a dubstep forum. Have to stop producing after hearing anything. All your tracks are just copies and lesser versions of themselves anyway.

It shouldn't annoy me because they had permission to do it and it's just sampling but with a live band sort of type of thing but that Coldplay track where they just lifted the melody from Kraftwerk - Computer World and then had a massive hit with it rubs me up the wrong way a bit.

at first it doesnt seem to similar, but when it drops in..

Soundcloud

(I dont really think its plagiarism, but the resemblance is uncanny; and the second tune is absolutely awful)

and this

Wouldn't say it wound me up though. I actually used to enjoy mixing and cutting these two because they're basically the same tune. Africa came out two weeks after Chest boxing.

But it's a thread about utter plagiarism. Wen and Bok Bok paid homage, took the original ideas and put them in new contexts. Maybe they should be called covers really but I'm not sure if any electronic musician would call his covers covers for whatever reason. Like if a band would play formula 2 melodies on guitars it would be considered a cover but when Bok Bok does something similar on a PC/Polysix it's not. Remake maybe?

I call covers covers.
Remixes are when I get stems, covers are when I do it all from scratch.

yeah definitely, i remember him talking about this in his rbma interview
What I've been trying to do is, I've been trying to take really technical influences from my influences. So what I'll do is, when I like a track I'm going to figure out how it was done, what equipment was used, what sound kits were used, what drum machines were used. I'll recreate it privately as an exercise in just learning how to produce. So for this whole EP, for the Southside EP, which is what that track came from, I went back and figured out a lot of these cheap, but no longer available sound kits that were being used at the time in 2003/'4, by these London producers...
...So anyway, I spent a little bit of time researching how these things were made, what effects were used and stuff like that, and then tried to make it my own. I don't know to what extent - you guys can be the judges of to what extent I succeeded - but the point is, it's trying to pay homage in a fairly direct way where I actually figure out the processes involved.
