Tes La Rok - Xtrack & Tutorial
Hey everyone,
It's been a while.
I decided to 'produce' a track using only Logic Pro X own synths & plugins. Here's the end result. I didn't really focus on mix down. More or less to few simple ways to create pad/atmospheres.
I uploaded Logic X arrangement file so anyone can play around with it. I also recorded it.. well, part of it! First time doing smith like this.
(screencapture program nearly killed my computer..it became mad slow & laggy)
Soundcloud
Logic file:

Bless.

Copping this on the break at work
Big ups for the post sir, makes me want to do something like this in Cubase... can't help but feel I'd be at a bigger disadvantage though cause the stock stuff on Cubase is dog shit

Re: Tes La Rok - Xtrack & Tutorial
I've been a Logic user for many years.. Nowdays I do alot of sketchin and loop manglin in Ableton. But I still prefer arragement & mixing in Logic Audio. But I've never really used any built-in synths. I got the feeling that I should.
Any request for future tutorials? Maybe I could re-build some of my released tunes. That's possible.

Many thanks for doing this! It's great to get such an insight into your workflow and production techniques inside Logic X, there's not a great deal out there from established producers at the moment. So big ups for putting the project file forward!
The stock synths in Logic are wicked, still rinse the ES2 on the regular and am quite liking the sound of the Retro Synth, defo up there with top 3rd party stuff imo.

Any chance of a re-build of Cold Blooded?!tes la rok wrote: Any request for future tutorials? Maybe I could re-build some of my released tunes. That's possible.

Many thanks for ur feedback.
If I'm correct it was made with Cubase 3 or 4 in 2005/2006 circa.
I could do Cold Blooded tutorial. That's excellent idea. I might not have all the sounds (like basedrum, snare) but I can re-create it bout the same. I'll look into this soon.

Awesome! It's one of the true dubstep classics imo, would be great for people to see how you created it. Big ups!

Re: Tes La Rok - Xtrack & Tutorial
I wouldn't really know what you could do as a tutorial, but just getting some insight into an established producer's workflow is huge. I personally believe one of the big things that sets the professionals apart from the amatures is the approach and the workflow.
Your remix of Under the Dancing Feet is one of my favorite tracks to this day. Just felt it pertinent as you may never post here again. Don't mind the drool that might be all over you right now, I'll try and clean that up later.

Wurd! Production's been devoid of the bigger names in the scene for a while... it's a shame really.legend4ry wrote:I'm just happy to see Tes La Rok post here.

Re: Tes La Rok - Xtrack & Tutorial
Haven't been on DSF in a while and the title caught my attention, glad I checked this out. Grabbing the Logic file and going to check it out. Thanks for sharing it!
@Tes La Rok - have you ever created templates for Logic to make it a little easier to jump into an idea or vibe? I have one I knocked up last week for a friend, it's all stock Logic X if you're interested in checking it out.

Thanks mate!
I'm not really into templates. I kinda want to start from the scratch every time. Kinda like a clean canvas that allows you to paint anything and with different styles. I like to save channel strip or effects settings time to time, but back in the days I didn't even save Logic own enviroment settings but rather built them from the scratch again and again.

I didn't get to watch the whole video, but did peek around the project file, was fun for me to see how you used different things and try to get an idea of someone else's approach with the same tools.tes la rok wrote: Thanks mate!

Have you explored many of the included channel strips? I saw you used two for aux's on this project. I haven't done much with them, but that might be partly down to inexperience and/or impatience, and not checking them out thoroughly.
In Logic 9 I had a basic auto-load that had the an arp tool (which I never seemed to use) and the MPC swing patterns, and would just start from that point. I am super into the MIDI tools and folders that Logic X introduced. Trying to use the summing folders more, usually all my drums under one summing folder which then acts as a drum bus.
