Free rain samples and some heavy thunder (WAV)

Post by komanderkin » Mon Jun 09, 2014 12:13 am

So, rain is one of my favorite things in the world and I also love how it sounds. We've had loads of rain in the past few months and I've been recording it like crazy all around the city. One day we've also had a wild thunderstorm and I was lucky enough to record that too and live to hear the samples.

Anyways, I've turned it all into a free sound library, hopefully the ultimate free toolkit of rain and thunder sounds. You can download it for free on my new website which will also work as an indie sound design label where everyone can post their work.

Here it is: http://99sounds.org/rain-and-thunder/

Soundcloud

The download size is around 500 MB and there's a bit less than 700 MB of audio data when extracted.

Check it out if you need this kind of sounds and please let me know what you think! It's my first ever sample library made with a portable recorder.

Enjoy!

I'm gonna check this out when I'm at my PC tomorrow. It definitely sounds like it'll be a quality pack that I'll use a lot. Big ups!

Will be using these immediately.

Just like to point out that in certain regions of the world it is getting fairly dangerous to be out in the rain due to concentrated fukushima radiation.

Damn, that's bad news. I had no idea. Any idea on specific regions? It would make sense that this could be true around Japan. Probably depends on the winds and ocean streams too.

Hot plutonium particle have been turning up in Sweden, though, so it is getting around.

I don't really have any extra equipment to use while recording, like covers, wind shields, etc. Basically I tried to find places where I could stay protected from the rain so that it won't fall on the recorder.

Quite a few recordings were messed up because of this approach though, so I had to ditch 'em.

The worst thing are the pigeons though, I've had 10 more great recordings of distant thunder for the pack but like in the middle of the thunder sound you hear a pigeon flapping his wings and fucking about for no reason. I mean I like pigeons and birds in general, but damn. Such jerks. There was also some guy who kept coughing and coughing somewhere in the background and messed up some of the otherwise decent takes.

All in all, an interesting experience. It will help me get more effective with future projects for sure.
